As I was perusing social media the other day, I stumbled upon this question:
"You're offered $50,000 but if you accept it, the person you hate most in the entire world gets $100,000. Are you taking it?"
It had generated a huge thread where people were answering and debating. I did not participate in that thread. But I realized that this would be the perfect sort of question for my random Friday question (especially as I had no other good ideas).
So, what do you think? Would you take it?
My knee jerk reaction was that I would. Why should I care what's happening with some person I hate? I can ignore them, right? Let them be happy somewhere else away from me. That would make me even happier, I think.
I'd take the deal. I like your attitude of not caring what happens to someone you hate, just ignore them. My reasoning is simpler. I can't think of a single person I hate! Some I don't like much, or wish wouldn't live across the street from me, but I've never had problems with people big enough to hate them. And I could use that $50,000!
ReplyDeleteIn the situation of this question, they would find someone you hate. At least, that's the way I read it.
DeleteCash is cash. You bet I'd take it.
ReplyDeleteThat seems to be the consensus.
DeleteWhat are you willing to do to hurt someone you hate? What sacrifice will you make to hurt them?
ReplyDeleteAre you willing to forego your own reward so that they don’t profit?
I think I’d take the cash.
Yup, I think that's the gist of the question right there.
DeleteI would take the cash. I'd have so many uses for it.
ReplyDeleteThat seems to be the consensus.
DeleteI think I would look for the person who hate me. Let them take 50 thousand, so 100,000 thousand would be mine.
ReplyDeleteI would answer with a qualified yes. If the person I hate is a truly bad person and might likely use the money for evil purposes, the answer would be no. Otherwise, yes. It's a question that really makes you think!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm gaining something, why would I bother about others?
ReplyDeleteI don't hate anyone. But even if it went to the person I dislike the least, it would be no big deal. They can have it.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a pass for me. Regardless of how much or little I disparaged my co-winner, I've never heard of a cash windfall ending in happiness. And I've witnessed family torn apart by a much lesser inheritance. ~sigh~ Be well, my dear.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I can see how that would be a thing, but I hadn't considered it.
DeleteMmm, I'd take it.
ReplyDelete100% I'd take the money!! It still helps me and honestly the one person who I "hate" it would also benefit me lol. I don't really hate anyone.

Heck yeah I'd take it. Why should I deny myself? Lol
ReplyDeleteInteresting question, Liz! I'd take the $50,000. Holding onto hatred only hurts me. Haha, I'm thinking that the people I hate most now are my selfish neighbors. The money could make them move far away from us! You asked if I discussed the issues with my hateful neighbors. I did and even brought the plate of drenched fries to show them to make a point, but their inconsiderate actions persist.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'd rather they got bupkis, but I'd probably take the moolah.
