Tiny Aliens

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if we finally met intelligent life from another world (aliens), except they were tiny compared to us (like the size of a butterfly)?

  1. We'd probably never know them, we'd probably crush them or ignore them

  2. Hopefully we wouldn't think they were ants and step on them!

  3. Not recognizing the cute little creature as an alien, the kindly old lady takes it home, thinking she will keep it in the terrarium as a companion for her lizard. The next morning the old lady wakes up. The terrarium has been shattered, the lizard is nowhere to be found, and the alien has become so large that he takes up half the kitchen. He is starved for food and ready to eat anything he can find.

    1. The old lady rushes out of the house through the back door, which is in the kitchen. Meanwhile, the alien keeps expanding, as well as growing arms and legs, and soon his bulk is pushing the roof off the house. The old lady can only watch from the street in horror.

  4. Hmmm, this was a Twilight Zone plot and, spoiler alert, it didn't end well.

    1. I dare you to not find a Twilight Zone episode for any of my questions. I don't think you can do it. I'm pretty sure Twilight Zone hit all the possibilities.

    1. Only if we want to meet them. Maybe we don't want to meet them.

  6. I will be curious if they have some powers disproportionate to their size.

  7. I think it would be interesting learning about them as we teach them about us.....if they are friendly.

    1. That's assuming that we recognized them as intelligent.

  8. Maybe they are fairies. I would build a little village for them.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
