The Afterlife
At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉
What if "heaven" and "hell" were both in the same location?

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

But they can't be...because we know that there's a stairway to Heaven and a highway to Hell.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if we worked smart enough, we could make those reach the same destination ;)
DeleteThat would be an interesting trip.
DeleteIt is. It's called Earth.
ReplyDeleteGood one! 👍
DeleteIt could be..if you construe it as how you view your own life no matter what happens to you.
ReplyDeleteI think you're getting what I was aiming for.
DeleteI think of that silly guy who lead the rosary for Mama's friend and how he might react to that question. I was furious when he told the audience that she'll get to heaven but we need to pray hard for her so that she can get a good seat next to Jesus.
ReplyDeleteCertainly be exciting to figure it all out!!

Building on J E ONeil's comment -yes, what if they were both on Earth already? And we keep reincarnating over and over. That isn't necessarily my belief but it's an interesting thought.
ReplyDeleteIt's one interpretation (and probably closer to what I believe).
DeleteIt reminds me a lot of "The Good Place." They weren't in the same place, exactly, but they interacted a lot. It was crazy and brilliant all at once.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of it like that, but yeah, that scenario works.
DeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteIf heaven and hell are in the same place then it would be like high school all over. The good guys happily doing what he/she is expected to do in 'heaven' and then the bad guys willfully doing everything he/she can secretly...maybe even openly to live up to his/her stature as the 'damned'. Heaven wouldn't be paradise if this was the scenario.
Simple, chaos will reign Supreme!
ReplyDeleteMaybe. Maybe not.
