Trustworthy?

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

What if the very helpful person assisting you turns out to be working for "the enemy"? (I'm not going to specify what type of enemy, so go as simple or complex as you wish.)

  1. It would depend on just what kind of "enemy" it was, and how vital the help they were providing was, or if I could get it elsewhere. Worst case "enemy," I'd stop accepting help. Then I'd wonder what was in it for them, why would they be helping me, an "enemy" to their cause? There are groups I certainly don't agree with, however, in times of disaster some of them are very helpful to anyone, everyone, strangers to them. They aren't really "enemies" though. I wouldn't drown rather than take the hand of an "enemy," I guess! If it benefitted the "enemies" in some way, I don't know. You really got me thinking on this one! I can't think of "enemies" other than foreign agents! I'm unlikely to get their help!

  2. I never trust helpful people. There is usually something sinister below the surface. I need to be able to figure out people and never take them at face value.

  3. It takes me a while to trust someone, so unless it's someone I've known for years, it wouldn't surprise me at all. I still might feel betrayed though. I probably would feel betrayed.

  4. Depends who their enemy is.

  5. I would be very cautious knowing they may have used me to get information and make sure I give nothing more to that person.

  6. Nice person, you mean the stab you in the back nice to your face person. Those aren't nice people at all. Working for the enemy planning your downfall. They say keep your enemies close, however. so might get some sneaky good information, just by knowing.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
