What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.
On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.
Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉
What if being a billionaire was illegal?
(I can sense some questions here. Let me specify that I don't mean billionaires would be hunted. It's more like the mechanisms in place that let a person acquire that amount of money are dismantled.)
I'd find another country to live in as I wouldn't want to be in one that controlling. Besides, most billionaires have big businesses that employ a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteTruth.
DeleteNot controlling...? Oh, right. Neither of you are women.
DeleteI would never be that rich because I would v3 making substantial donations to good causes
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a true communist society, and I wouldn't want that. I think something needs to change so there are fair taxes paid on millions and billions made. You have self-proclaimed billionaires claiming they pay none, something's wrong there.
ReplyDeleteCommunism and Socialism are great. IN THEORY. But, the problem is there are far too many selfish folks out there.
Delete~nods~
DeleteIt could be the spark for a dystopian story or maybe an ideal world if people could still be wealthy but couldn't acquire a billion or more.
ReplyDeleteSounds very "Twilight Zoneish."
Deletethecontemplativecat here. that would pose a dilemma for some people. Not me, but someone somewhere would find that a challenge.
ReplyDeleteMixed feelings. I could wish more billionaires would use their money for good, and not for buying fleets of yachts or hundreds of cars. But if their earning of the money is legitimate, I wouldn't take it from them. Tax it, yes, and require they pay taxes. But not prohibit them from having what they earned.
ReplyDeleteI have no trouble with the super rich. But they need to pay there taxes.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm not (and never will be), I have zero frame of reference...lol.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great to live in a country that implemented this scenario, but there are several issues to consider. As long as the amount of money that one cannot legally own is going to support or finance solutions to social problems or support health and safety of the population, it could be a good things; the hard part would be putting it in place to function without risks of people in power breaking the law by getting reach.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is, such rules are supposed to be framed by the ruling people (Government) and they will not do it as it will be effecting them.
ReplyDeleteMore money/wealth would go underground.
