Check Me Out

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

Have you heard of the Human Library? It's where you "check out" people instead of books. Interesting concept. Which leads me to...

What if you were the "book" in a human library? What would you talk about?

  1. I have a lot of experiences to talk about. If I wanted to be a very popular book I'd focus on my vacation trips, all the fun things I did that my readers could do as well. If I wanted to appeal to the lowest common denominator I'd talk about my divorce.

  2. Depends on the patron. Perhaps gardening, or places I've been. Books I've read and recommendations. I wouldn't be just one thing, shelved in one place!

  3. I might talk about autism. It's taken me nearly 20 years to begin to get an understanding of. it (one of our grandchildren) and now I think I have some wisdom to pass along.

    1. There are plenty of parents dealing with a new diagnosis. I'm sure you'd be of help.

  4. ME! haha....I would probably cover crafting and painting. Be nice if we could check a person out of the human library to clean the house, cook for us......that would be interesting.

    1. You know, there might be people who would enjoy that sort of thing.

  5. I would be an interesting book for sure. I don't think I could cover just one topic. Adventure, travel, music, arts, psychology...it would be a rather lengthy thing. Might not even fit on the shelf. ;)

    1. I would think people would be allowed to cover more than one topic. We are all more than just one thing.

  6. I'd rather not but I'd let the person who checked me out ask the questions.

  7. I could talk about lot of things. But the three things I guess be on top of my list is. Being an only child, Having older parents, and riding in horse shows.
But I would always live a space for question.

  8. I could talk about movies, actors, anything Hollywood. I love talking about art, art history, gothic architecture. Travel and unique destinations. Archeology from Pompeii to King Tut. The human psyche, what makes us tick. Bullying, astrology, the unknown, ghosts, hauntings. I could gab forever.i bet they would put me back in the library while I was still talking.

  9. It's fascinating, reading the comments. Well, for me: I have a 60-something brother in law with autism. He's been in my life for 50 years, and I can talk about my advocacy for him. I can talk about living in the countryside and raising chickens, or the field I've earned a living in for some 45 years.

    1. We all have something that we can talk about that's unique to us.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
