What Not to Do

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

What if the one thing "they" asked you not to do was the only available option?

  1. Hopeful I could in reasonable way I could explain why it need to be done that way...Then if that didn't work...say something like...I don't feel I have any other opition and if it ruins our friendship I am sorry.

  2. I'd be like peppylady. I would have to explain my side and see if we could mutually come up with something or I too would be parting ways.

  4. I would have to consider the source. I've discovered that a lot of rules are in place to maintain control over a person and are often said by hypocrites. The "do as I say not as I do" crowd of people. That doesn't fly with me. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

  5. I'm not good with such generals. I'd need a lot more specifics before I could make a decision, like who they were and what they wanted. Knowing that could make a big difference in my answer.

  6. For one, I don't like being told (what not to do)

  7. It would depend on WHO they were! But then again, I have not always done what was asked of me, I pretty much go with what I feel is right or the only way to go.

  8. I think that that would be a struggle for me. I might just do it anyway & apologize later.

  9. I can't imagine the scenario. At the very least, I can do nothing. Then I'm not doing the thing they want me to not do.
Unless it's "don't pee". Then I can only go so long, like everyone else.

  10. Who is the "they"? The CIA? The CEO of my company? My next door neighbor? It would all depend.

    1. I kept it as a vague "they" so that you could take the question where you wanted.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
