DVR Resident

Since I am officially on summer vacation, it's time for the "summer schedule". That means today should be a random quiz.

But, I've found that finding a random quiz is much more work than I want to do right now. So, out of sheer laziness, I'm introducing a new blog "feature". The random question.

At the beginning of this year, I switched my TV provider. (This is a long story which I won't bore you with.) With the switch, I lost everything on my old DVR. The only thing I wanted to replace right away was one particular movie.

Luckily, it was on some channel pretty soon after the switch, so I was able to add it to the new DVR right away.

I don't know why I like this movie so much. I suppose I should buy a copy, but it's not the same as having it on my DVR. I can just pull it up and watch a bit of it when I have an odd moment, and then it'll be waiting for me later when I want to watch it again.

So, my random question for you today:

Is there any TV show or movie you have on your DVR that you just keep there? Do you rewatch it frequently?

    1. So do I, generally. But that one movie I like to rewatch.

  2. I don't have a DVR anymore. I watch everything through streaming. Whenever I get the urge to watch something, I just look for it online.

  3. I record programs/movies and then I find I don't have time to see everything I had recorded. (We do delete everything we've watched). But periodically, the combo cable box/DVRs my cable company provide die, and there is no way to recover the data. So guess what? We went away for a long weekend last weekend and when we came back Monday - you guessed it, the cable box/DVR was dead. So it's all lost. Again. Easy come....

    1. That's one of the great things about streaming. No DVR box. It's all stored in the cloud. I do know all about losing everything, though. Changing services did that for me several times.

  4. Never had a DVR - don't think they were ever really a thing in Australia (Oz never really had cable either, just 1 cable company before streaming became a thing here, so most didn't have that either). We just watch everything through streaming now - even if you miss it on live TV all the free stations have a streaming page where you can re/watch.

    1. It seems like no one has that one movie they like to watch over and over. Good to know.

  5. Well, I had to ask my son what a DVR is, so no, I don't. I guess I don't have one. I don't have cable so if it comes with that, no. I have movies I watch over and over on DVD and VHS. My daughter and I were just talking (no, texting, but it feels like I talk to her all the time when I don't hear her voice at all!) about The Full Monty, and how we both love it. That's one we watch over and over. Medicine Man is one of my favorites I rewatch too. It never gets dated, unfortunately the issues still exist. Those are older, so probably don't find them on Netflix etc. Maybe, I don't know! I watch little tv.

    1. Well, that answers my question. Did you know they're doing a series of The Full Monty? At least, I saw some ads about it, something about the same guys in the same town but they're much older now. I don't know Medicine Man, though. I'll have to look it up.

    2. My daughter mentioned that. I don't like remakes or prequels. Never work out as good as originals for me. The show itself will be in town (Portland, OR) soon, and my daughter may go for her birthday.

    3. It's not a remake or a prequel. It looks like it's going to be on the channel FX. Same guys. They're older now. It's a sequel if anything.

  6. No. Rarely I will watch the same movie, show or read the same book over and over.

  7. Never had a DVR.
I,too, rarely watch the same movie twice, except for Everything, Everywhere ,All At Once and that was because I couldn't understand the plot the first time.

  8. I don't have DVR anymore but when I did I had Crazy Stupid Love and 10 Things I Hate About You on it. Always put me in a good mood.

  9. I don't think DVR was ever a thing here in Australia? I avoided streaming until our Pandemic lockdowns (but even now I only have one constant subscription - Disney+, I cycle through the others depending on what I want to watch, I make sure a whole season has been uploaded then buy a months access, then cancel it at the end of the month).

For me, my constant rewatch is "Miranda", a BBC comedy show from 10+ years ago, I watch episodes when I am sad because it never fails to cheer me up.

    2. I had no idea that DVRs were a US thing. You never had TiVo? Wow. But, yeah, Miranda would qualify as the thing you watch over and over. I'll have to see if I can locate it here.

    3. The only reason I have even heard of Tivo in Australia is because we get so much American TV.

  10. I prefer my dvds so I have a wealth of them and can rewatch many. The Martian is excellent
