Summer Goals Outstanding

The first day of school is next week.

(Assuming I work the first day of school, which isn't a given, I would write about that the week after next as the blog is always a week behind. So, I'm not quite back to subbing blogging quite yet.)

As my summer vacation draws to a close, I begin to think of all the things I didn't do this summer. Mostly, I have a bunch of projects that are sitting and staring at me. (I did a lot of resting. And sleeping. And reading.) I don't think there's anything I wish I had done, but I've still got a couple weeks to try and get them accomplished.

Which leads me to today's question:

What is something that you'd still like to do this summer?

Your Superpower

What superpower do you have?

I know what you're thinking. You don't believe you have a superpower. But that's only because what is actually a superpower is something that you've been taught is commonplace. Or, you don't think of it as special.

Frequently, while at work, a student will have technical difficulties. I will approach offering help. And suddenly their computer will work. They'll swear up and down that it wasn't working, but as soon as I arrived...

I assure them that I believe them. (Students who are just goofing off give off a whole different kind of energy.) I can just... make things work. Not always. But frequently enough that it no longer surprises me.

So, what about you? What is something that just kind of works for you or comes easily to you that doesn't to others?

Best Dinner

My birthday's in ten days. And I don't know what I want for dinner.

It's a family tradition (well, for the last decade or so). The birthday celebrant gets to pick the meal.

In past years, I've been hungry for something, so it wasn't too hard to decide. But this year, I'm blank.

The only thing I've been craving is turkey meatloaf. However, the only person who makes it the way I like is me. The rest of the family isn't too keen. So, last week, I made one for me. Because it was just for me, I had enough to last me a week. It was lovely.

And I'm left with what do I want the family to make for me for my birthday? And I'm still blank.

So, I'm seeking ideas. But it's also a fun question:

If you got to pick your very favorite meal (that you didn't have to cook or pay for or clean up after), what would you choose?

The Projects

Yesterday I posted a list of some things I've done this summer. These are not interesting things. These are decluttering, organizing, and sorting things. Projects.

I'm not nearly done. As I sit here writing this, I'm glancing around at the various shelves and drawers I want to go through and declutter and downsize. Reorganize. Move and make work more efficiently. It feels kind of overwhelming, but I just need to keep plugging away at it.

That leads me to today's question/s. I'm asking in the spirit of what I've been up to. The more mundane, the better.

What have you been doing lately? What have you gotten done lately? What would you like to get done?

Playing Tourist

It's full on summer (at least here in the northern hemisphere), and summer is known for turning people into tourists.

Last week, my roommates decided that we needed to go out to dinner an iconic place, Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. It's a place with a lot of history, and it's definitely something you'd want to do if you were a visitor to my area.

I had never been before, even though I knew about it. And that leads to today's random question.

What is something that your hometown is known for, but it's something you've never done (or a place you've never visited)?

Your Expertise

Last week I spent the whole week working on two videos. Which leads me to this week's question:

If you could start a podcast or YouTube channel, what would your topic be?

If I wasn't already doing a yarn-y thing, I think I'd probably want to do a podcast on substitute teaching. I'd love to get other subs together so we could compare horror stories. I don't know if anyone would want to listen in, though...

Dinner

I was just doing my weekly grocery shopping, and I got to thinking. I have a basic meal that is kind of my go-to, a meal that I'll throw together on a busy weeknight that seems to work for me. It's easy, and I'm not bored of it.

So, that's my question for you today: Do you have a meal that you regularly eat (like weekly) that's easy to prepare and you never seem to tire of it?

For me, it's chicken breast (precooked, so I just have to reheat it in the microwave) with a simple side of rice (a packaged side dish) and green beans. I make this so often I have it down to routine.

Sleepytime

Last Friday, I started a new summer weekly post with my random question. And no one seems to have a DVR anymore. How quickly things change...

So, last week was my first official week of summer vacation, and I had my usual problem. I can't seem to get to bed at a decent hour. I find my actual getting into bed getting closer and closer to midnight. And then I'll read until 2 AM. At least.

That's my question for you this week: When not impacted by work or other outside forces, what time do you find yourself getting to bed?

DVR Resident

Since I am officially on summer vacation, it's time for the "summer schedule". That means today should be a random quiz.

But, I've found that finding a random quiz is much more work than I want to do right now. So, out of sheer laziness, I'm introducing a new blog "feature". The random question.

At the beginning of this year, I switched my TV provider. (This is a long story which I won't bore you with.) With the switch, I lost everything on my old DVR. The only thing I wanted to replace right away was one particular movie.

Luckily, it was on some channel pretty soon after the switch, so I was able to add it to the new DVR right away.

I don't know why I like this movie so much. I suppose I should buy a copy, but it's not the same as having it on my DVR. I can just pull it up and watch a bit of it when I have an odd moment, and then it'll be waiting for me later when I want to watch it again.

So, my random question for you today:

Is there any TV show or movie you have on your DVR that you just keep there? Do you rewatch it frequently?
