Denied

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if the group to which you desperately want to belong refuses to admit you?

  1. Tough one as I can't think of any group I'd want to belong to that I couldn't.

    1. That's nice. It's not true for lots of people, though.

  2. That is literally the story of my life.

  3. I guess I've never really experienced that since I left school, haha! Its the kind of struggle kids deal with a lot I think. I'm lucky the boys are younger, everyone is friends and they haven't really split into little groups yet but I'm sure it will happen one day!

Hope that your week is going well! The flood waters have gone down here so we are no longer flooded in which is awesome :)

    1. Yes, it can very much be a school thing. Or a high society thing.

  4. I would think, my life is way more than half over, and I wouldn't have time for trying again and again.

    1. There gets to be a point where it's no longer worth the effort. This might be more of a young person's question.

  5. I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. I figure if group like that one would have to put on act. I don't any part of it.

  6. I’d want the character to be less needy at the end of her story.

  7. Then you'd write a great kid's book about it. Awaiting this book to be written now.

    1. Ah yes, that is a recurring theme, isn't it?

  8. I would be pissed but I would consider that okay, cause if they don't want me, I don't want them.

    1. That's the ideal response. Whether or not it always works out that way...

  9. I would feel bad for the moment, talk to my good friends and start to realize that there would be no reason to be that snotty to me so they can go to hell:))

    1. I think it's an age thing, too. At a certain age, we no longer care for those sorts of exclusionary groups.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
