Trying It Again

I didn't do a whole lot of knitting last week. I know, I say this a lot, but this last week I had an excellent excuse. I'm still out of my bedroom.

I'm hoping it'll be about another week until things have been repaired. But considering how the clean up has gone, I'm not going to hold my breath.

(It's gone well, considering. But, just when I think something is going to happen, a contractor cancels. Or, one contractor tells me that I'll have access to my stuff, and then the guys who are doing the work on Saturday morning inform me just as they're about to start that I won't have any access until Tuesday late afternoon. And I have 20 minutes to grab everything I might need until then.)

So, yeah, it's been interesting...

And just as I'm contemplating finishing my father's wife's walking purse...

...I realize that I don't like what I've knit.

(Apologies for the pics. My normal background fabric is in my sealed off room--there was mold--and my lights need charging--someone brought out the lights but not the charging cables.)

The one on the left is the first attempt. I knew I could get it not to curl, hence the second attempt on the right. (This is the flap for over the purse.)

Once I reknit the flap, I figured I could reknit the purse...

In an attempt to prevent that curl (the top), I decreased the stitches (the bottom), and found that it didn't make much of a difference. Sigh.

Next time (if there is a next time), I'll crochet an edging on it. It'll be much easier, and I can probably fix that curl better. I hope.

  1. I think it looks nice. Its so hard to deal with contractors with things like this. I never like people working inside the house and am glad when they are done with it. I would especially not like anyone working in my bedroom.

  2. Sorry you are still out of your own room. Contractors do like to take their time, don't they?

  3. Ah yes, the joy of contractors. I found our experience with them to be incredibly frustrating after our flood. I hope you're able to keep any frustration to a minimum and that everything's resolved soon.

And my completely knitting-ignorant, untrained eye thinks the purse is cute.

  5. Water damage, contractor, repairs ....not my idea of fun. I’m sorry you have to deal with this.

    1. Thanks. It's been a challenge. Not as bad as it could have been, however. It might have splashed all over my yarn ;)

  6. Still out of your bedroom? Ugh, that sounds awful. The purse looks nice though.

  7. My daughter is in the middle of mess. With each step, another pops up with repairs needed before continuing with the first one.

    Sanity is a rare commodity.

  8. Why not add a button and loop like this one: knitted bag? I think that would work and still look lovely (and after all the owrk you've done you don't want to not use it, or worse, start again!).

  9. I've come to the conclusion that knitting and crocheting is not an easy thing for me to do. I can't see the curl that you're talking about. The other day a friend showed me how to turn while crocheting. Simple, but not for me. Then she proceeded to amaze me with other basic stitches, all the while saying that she hasn't crocheted in years.

  10. Hi Liz - such a pain ... but I think I'd just get through - though great you're still trying to knit or crochet ... hope it all resolves itself soon - ie within a fortnight or so ... take care -cheers Hilary

  11. Bleh. Things dealing with contractors never go as planned, do they?

    1. It doesn't. But it's going much smoother than I expected.

  12. How irritating that the contractors don't seem to realize what they are doing.to you...and others. I would hope they have it all cleaned up and no mold will occur inside the walls. As for your purse...I think it looks great and i think your step mom will like it.

    1. Apparently it isn't much mold. Just flecks. The cleanup is mostly done now. Hooray!

  13. Water damage sucks. We had a crack in our foundation a couple years backed and it soaked our downstairs after an extra heavy snow fall. It's definitely stress inducing.

So is the purse you've pictured the one you don't like? I don't have a very discerning eye when it comes to crocheting.

    1. I like it except for the curl at the top. The body is fine. Hopefully I'll have a good pic for Monday.

  14. What a pretty purse! I'm so sorry you're still struggling with repairs. How frustrating. I hope that mold gets thoroughly cleaned up. We discovered a lot in the basement beneath our fireplace. I'm grateful we have a good contractor, though he seems to have forgotten about finishing the little area of flooring. ~shrugs~ At least the space is clean and dry. Take care.

    1. Apparently it was only flecks of mold. The contractor said it wasn't worth doing anything more to eradicate it as now they've dried everything out.
