Trying Again

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

What if we (our world, our lives, our planet) is a recreation of a long gone civilization? (This was a random thought I had the other day. Who we're recreating and how "they" managed to do this were not included in the random thought, so that's open to your interpretation.)

  1. I would wonder what happened to the original and what we can do to avoid their mistakes

  4. thecontemplativecat here. That is a peculiar prompt. I feel that way when another Inca pyramid is discovered. Who were they, anyway?

  5. Would we know? If not, I wouldn't care. If so, I would think that, if we were based on a previous civilization, how effed up was that civilization?

  6. That's a mind-bending thought! It makes you wonder about our origins and what mysteries might lie beyond our understanding.

  7. The band Ayreon had two concept albums that were just that. Maybe not an actual recreation, but another attempt to do it right. (The second album was because the second attempt didn't work either.)

  8. We're a do over eh? First time around got scrubbed, wiped clean, erased. Artist is trying again. Maybe the wind blew us away the first time. Or artist wasn't pleased with his or her first endeavor. I don't know if you're talking about the earth as a whole, all its little aspects or just humans. I don't like human centric concepts, as if we are the only important things in all the universes. I guess thats normal as an individual of any species to be only concerned really about ones own survival and the friendlies in your own little alike group.

  9. Well, I would have to wonder where we went wrong on the first go around and if there was a way of finding that out so we could change things and not have to have yet another do over

  10. What a mind-bending idea, Liz! If we're a recreation of a past civilization, it raises questions about our purpose and potential. Do our creators want us to uncover the truth? If so, what would we do with that knowledge? Would we repeat their mistakes, or forge our own path? It's a fascinating concept that challenges us to rethink our understanding of humanity and our place in the universe.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
