Deal with the Devil

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if the only person you could go to for help would expect a very high price in return?

  1. I don't mind paying but I am cheap....I like a bargain myself and I hate paying more then a job is worth.

    1. Perhaps in this case that's the only price. Because there's only one person who can help you.

  2. I guess I'd have to pay the price, if there was no other option, and a real emergency. "... a very high price..." sounds more like favors than money to me! I would rather owe money than a favor! At least with money you know how much, a favor you never know what it will be.

    1. There's a reason I titled this "deal with the devil"...

  3. If I’m desperate I might, but it all depends with what I need help.

    1. I did not specify literal devil. (I needed a D question.) But, could be...

  5. It would depend if the solution was moral, ethic, and lawful.

  6. If it was an emergency I would have to swallow the unpleasantness and pay the price. If not an emergency I would, perhaps, try once again to find my own solution.

    1. I see I didn't specify emergency or not, so yeah, it could be either one.

  7. I'd tell them to go to hell and cross them off my contact and friend lists in my mind forever. And deal with the problem some other way. I've been in this position. More than once.

  8. It would depend who the person is, the price, and what help I need. I agree with everyone else who says they'd try to find another solution.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
