Easy Fix

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if that one thing you've been putting off and putting off, that you thought would take you maybe five minutes (or maybe an hour), ends up being way more complicated than you expected?

  1. I laughed at this. Everything I put off ends up taking way longer than it should. That's why I put it off. The most recent thing was putting together my new lawnmower. It took me almost an hour just to read and understand the directions! I finally got it together (I think), but it took over 3 hours!

  4. I'm amazed at how often procrastinated tasks turn out easy. ~shakes head~ This sounds like a fun way to challenge fictional characters. :)

    1. Usually, yes. Which is why I turned the question to the other side.

  5. Well, that happens often. I always misjudge time.

  6. I was writing an email to my boss and realised I was on my own time. Well tomorrow another day, I'll finish it then I figured. Why be so worried about work?

  7. Hmmm, let's see. A couple things come to mind. Hand-made holiday cards for the grandkids: my wife decorates them with the basics, leaving me to fill in with silly, fun, colorful (you get the idea) drawings/writings, etc. I sit at the table with the cup full of colored markers, scrap paper, pencil, etc., and next thing I know it's been 2 or more hours and I maybe have 2 cards completed. Next item is kind of a reverse thing: I fix things for a living, but I'm also a lifelong procrastinator. My wife has a running "honey-do" list, and I'll admit here- many of the items take so little time to complete, but by the time I get to them my wife just shakes her head.

    1. Yeah, well, the opposite happens as often. Those cards sound fun, though.

  9. I can't exactly remember what it was. But I have been in that situation. And I ensured that I did it, even if it took longer than I thought it would.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
