Ugly Slippers, Final

I finally got the soles sewn onto the ugly slippers. Finally.

It wasn't all that difficult, but as with all new things, it took me a while to get the hang of it.

I'm not sure how well this works at keeping the slippers non-slip. I'll have to get back to you on that, after the recipients get their long-overdue Christmas presents and try them out.

In case you'd like to try this yourself, the tutorial for this method is found here. I googled "soles on knitted slippers" and this site came up.

As you can see, her soles look much, much better than mine. I used a faux leather fabric.

Ah well. It's done now. Would I use this same method again? I don't know. It depends on how well the slippers work out.

And with that, my Christmas 2018 knitting is done. Christmas 2017 knitting is still ongoing.

Bedroom deluge update: I still have a big ol' hole in my ceiling.

It's pretty much the entire ceiling. It will not get repaired until the restoration company knows who's paying to have it repaired. The owner of the property upstairs refuses to pay as does her insurance company. The renters still deny that anything whatsoever actually happened. So, before anything else can happen, we have to take them to court. Ugh.

  1. It took me a minute to get the second pictures there were the bottom of the slippers. I was trying to figure out why there were two holes. LOL

Ugh. That sucks. I hope it's not too painful to get sorted.

  2. That does suck. It's someone's fault and somebody's insurance needs to cover it.

  3. Sorry you still have the hole in your ceiling. Hopefully you won't have to deal with it much longer.

    1. That would be nice, but I'm bracing for this lasting a while longer.

  4. The slippers are neat, but oh man, I think you're going to have a hole in your ceiling for a while...

  5. That is absolutely ridiculous about no one wanting to pay for the repair, though I'm not surprised with insurance denial. Must be Geico. They denied a claim that I thought they should have covered. Anyway, what a pain to have to take them to court. I do like the slippers, the purple ones came out very nice!

  6. So sad when damage is unrepaired (or health issues don't get addressed)due to insurance denials or people who are (I won't use the word here). I'll be curious if the soles are anti slip. I'm afraid to use slippers I crocheted some years back. As an official senior now, I don't dare. Amazing how throw rugs and items like that are suddenly turning into magic carpet wannabees. How does that happen?

    1. Well, no slip is the idea. I have no idea if it works, however. Luckily, the recipients can be my guinea pigs.

  9. Okay...so the slippers look like you would not bust a rear wearing them but they look different. Oh my gosh the ceiling thing has really gotten out of hand, shame that you are having to go to court over that and hoping it don't take long to get it done. That is so crazy.

    1. Yeah, well, when money is involved, no one wants to take responsibility.

    2. Yep....but that is not good for the folks that are paying the price is comfort and the ones having to give up their spot!

  10. That's too bad, Liz, that you have to go to court to resolve the ceiling problem. It doesn't make sense why the buck doesn't stop with the property owner.
Your ugly slippers are cute. Their look reminds me of clogs.

  11. Whoa! I have to catch up here to see what happened with the ceiling!

Without knowing anything about making slippers, what about using some that rubber shelf-liner for the soles?

    1. There are a few solutions others have come up with. I decided to try those before coming up with a solution on my own. (Those don't come out well, at least judging from prior experience.)

  12. Love your slippers! I love the different tones and colours used. That truly sucks about the ceiling and I wish something could be done since it seems pretty apparent that the renters above did do something to cause this issue.

    1. Yeah, well... I suppose I should be more upset than I am, but I can't work myself up into a lather over it.

  13. Hi Liz - regrettably I agree with your title - sorry 'ugly' they be. That hole though is far worse ... absolutely awful - good luck ... take care - cheers Hilary

  14. What a pain, the ceiling. I'm sure you have some legal remedy, can't just live like that for a long duration. I hope it all sorts out soon. On the slippers ... you nailed the description. :)

    1. Does one really need a ceiling? Other than hearing every shower and such, it's just a hole. It's not really hurting anything.

  15. To court? Oh, no. How horrid for you. Surely the construction company that came in and looked or the plumber (or whichever tradie) would be bale to say, yep has to have come from upstairs. I mean, you didn't stand below throwing buckets of water at the roof!!
