Dropping a Lifeline

I started this scarf one year ago today. Aannndddd... I'm just about finished. I think.

It's almost wide enough. Although, what is wide enough? It's probably okay right now...

But I could do another pattern repeat. Maybe. Possibly.

Does it look like I have enough yarn for another pattern repeat?

If I had been thinking and planning ahead, I would have weighed the yarn before and after a pattern repeat. Then I could determine if I have enough yarn left.

But no. I didn't. So, I'm eyeballing this, and I'm notoriously bad at that.

I'm going to go for it. I might make it.

But, I'm hedging my bets. I've dropped a lifeline.

What's a lifeline? It's a strand of yarn strung through all the stitches of one round. So, if it turns out I don't have enough yarn to complete the pattern repeat, I can frog it back to the lifeline and bind off.

I may have enough yarn, though. In that case, all I have to do is pull the lifeline out.

Wish me luck. By the time you read this, I might already know if I made it. The next time you see this scarf, it will be finished one way or the other.

  1. Ughh..It's moi, Birgit. At work I have a different Google use and even when I put myself in for my personal, it is not reading it this way. Your scarf looks great and love the colour. I don't have a clue if you have enough but great to see you are near the end of this one

    1. It's looking good at this moment. I'll know in a couple days if I made it.

I had the exact same issue a couple days ago while perusing blogs at work. I just logged off and waited until I got home. I think the teacher's computer that I was using had cookies turned off.

  2. Good luck with the scarf and with winter coming you'll need it to wrap around to keep warm.

  8. Now I will sitting up at night thinking about this scarf wondering if you have enough yarn.

  9. Very pretty and you know I love purple. Hoping you have enough yarn to get it done. Reply to your comment about painting Misfires name on the door. ....thought about it but I don't think so since horses come and go and I don't want her name on there when others don't have that. However a couple of yrs ago I made a plaque with her name on it and it hangs above her door now.

  10. Love the color. Had never heard of weighing yarn. What a concept! I still have a lot to learn.

    1. It's the second mitten trick. If you've knit a mitten, but are unsure if you have enough yarn for a second one, weigh the first one and then the yarn. If the yarn weighs more, you have enough yarn.

  12. It's looking so pretty! And the lifeline was very clever. Good luck, I hope you don't actually need it.
