Invisible Protector

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

The other day I was in the kitchen, and I felt something wet hit the back of my leg. I looked around for what could have caused it. But I could find no apparent cause. And then my mind went to a very strange place...

What if you couldn't perceive the person who was looking after you?

I'll let you decide if this is a more mundane (because you can't see) or weird (because they exist on a different plane of existence) question...

  1. Isn't that what a guardian angel is?

Whenever I feel something wet hit the back of my leg, it's always a cat.

  2. I'd see if I needed to head to the toilet. Or I'd leave the house fast.

  3. Are we talking about so called guides. If so they communicated with us in so many forms. But it our free will to as we will or not.

  4. That would freak me out if I couldn't quite figure what caused that wet feeling. Of course people in comas or under anesthesia don't perceive the people who are taking care of them. I guess in some situations it would be okay, but if it was an "every day" and the care given I'm not sure I would like that.

  5. I always work with the assumption that the invisible "watchers of my life" cannot read my thoughts. They can only observe, so I try to keep them on their toes.

I get up in the morning to take a shower, but spin around several times before staring the water. I'll randomly throw spaghetti on the wall or talk to a random cat on the street. I'll drop a few green beans in my underwear before leaving the house. I'll place my cell phone on the blade of a ceiling fan before going to bed.

All this is done just to make their reports back to their superiors look like nonsense. And it keeps me entertained all day.

  6. I would find it very strange! It would make me very uncomfortable.

Coincidentally, just this morning, I had a strange experience of something disappearing right from in front of my eyes. I will blog about it one of these days.

  8. First I would think it was my dog and if not her then I would blame it on a dead relative and let them know that it's okay if they visit just don't freak me out. :) -

    1. But what if the dog was on the couch in front of you?

  9. Let's hope it wasn't some ghostie licking your leg. Sorry, my mind went right there. I would not like be watched over by some "nanny" I can't see because that would mean I couldn't get away with anything.

    1. I'm rather disappointed that I miss all the ghosts. I worked at a place that was supposedly haunted. I never once saw a ghost, and I was there until 4 AM a few times...

  10. Well, without someone reading this and thinking that this woman is totally out of her mind...I have lived with a ghost before. Now, keeping in mind that mine was not an evil ghost, and even with the passing glances at it here and there, it was not someone I knew. But being that it was not an issue I felt that it was there to look after me and my kids. We lived with our ghost for about seven or eight yrs. My kids were gone from home and it was driving me nuts! It loved the kitchen and it would get in there making all sorts of noise. I finally sat down one night, had a nice long talk with it and told it that I was good, it was time for it to move on. It did. So, would I have issues with a protector looking over me that I can't see, SURE! Course you know my life the last five months....right now I would love to have someone, invisable or not looking after me.

  11. That's what guardian angels are all about. Many believe in them. Me, I look to see if an insect is crawling on me.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
