In View

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

The other day on my way into work, one morning radio program had found a bit of news that they were making fun of. Apparently, there's a View-Master movie in the works. And they just found that hilarious.

The question they posed to one of the guys on the air was: How could they possibly make a movie about a View-Master?

And off the top of my head, I came up with two different ideas. (One could be a Twilight Zone episode, and the other is more of a bio-pic.)

If I can come up with a couple ideas...

What if your story had to start (somehow) with or contain a View-Master? (And hey, it sounds like no one is attached to this project, yet, so you might consider pitching your idea to the studio.)

  1. Don't know the complete plot yet, but it would involve someone from the future picking up a View Master either from a yard sale or dump and then clicking on it, seeing the pictures and then whatever the pictures were would suck the person in from the future and have them live out the pictures in some story form.

I don't see my idea being captivating though :)

  2. Maybe it would be a thriller-mystery? maybe the person would see a murder in the scenes of the View Master?

  3. The images start out normal, then they show the future of whatever is being viewed. Then the person has to figure out how to change it or if he should.
    Best I got!

  4. I have no idea how that would work. But I bet it would be as good as the movie based on the Ouija board.

  5. Click. click. click. click. That's what comes to my mind when I think of viewmaster. Also, a memory of me entertaining myself with the viewmaster as I wait for the parents to finish shopping at the market.

  6. They would start clicking images of washed out 1970’s Niagara Falls images and then, with a click, they are in the view master living in that polyester time period in Niagara Falls

  7. All I can think of is a character getting sucked into the View-Master.

    1. It's just a story about how they've greenlit the project. There wasn't much more to it.

  9. The VIEW MASTER that as a kid we played with (my generation)? Humm....not sure about a movie about that but then again they have made movies out of other silly stuff. My son loved a movie growing up called the Brave Little Toaster!

    2. Found one last weekend in moms basement, yet another toy she kept after all 6 grands had their time playing with it. The ages go from 23 up to 38.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
