Annoyed, Part 2

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉

Last week's question actually generated this week's question. As I was waiting yet again for another comment to post, I had a more nefarious idea why everything's been so slow...

What if computer glitches/slow downs are happening because we're being spied on? As we all know, our data is being mined by various entities. So, what if they're doing it very badly, and our slow internet is because of how they're gathering our information?

Okay, so maybe I'm being a little paranoid. But just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me. 😉

  1. If they are doing it badly then I would definitely suspect our government.

  2. Amen, sister. My favorite eagle nest cams are not operating or empty, so I'm blaming the Russians. :P

    1. Sure, why not? They're as likely a culprit as any.

    1. It's kinda sad how easily we accept the possibility.

  4. There's over seven billion people in the world. I feel like they could find someone more interesting than me.

    1. I have my moments of paranoia. This one happened to coincide with my needing a "what if?" question.

  6. They would be bored to tears with my life unless they like seeing my hubby and I on the couch watching tv with our fur babes

  7. I would completely buy into this, and wouldn't necessarily think it was by aliens, either. My assigned spy would die from boredom. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  8. My son is a true believer that the government is monitoring everything we do, via computer, cell phone, cameras out in public...etc. My answer to that is....if they have nothing better to do then spy on me...HAVE AT IT!!!! If they have nothing better to do then to learn about me then I would have to tell them to move on to someone else. I am about as boring as boring can be. They will learn that I suffer mindlessly from pain, from the fibro...hell I could teach them about that! haha

  9. There is a certain level of spying. Have you ever noticed that ads on blogs are often related to key words that were used in a post? Happens all the time. If you want absolute privacy, then I guess you have to stay off the computer. But in this day and age, it's a little tough to do that.

    1. Ah yes, the cookies. If you turn off cookies, that happens less, but if you turn off cookies, some websites won't work as well. So, you should clear out your cookies periodically.

  10. I'd like to negotiate with em. They can have everything they want if they take it at 3am and leave me alone the rest of the time..

    Deal?

  11. They are spying on us. Every time I google something I keep seeing Facebook ads for the exact obscure thing!

    1. Oh, that's from the cookies. If you clear out the cookies after looking for some obscure thing, the ads won't follow you. Google does that deliberately.
