Genius

Have you heard about Genius? It was on NatGeo (National Geographic), so I wouldn't be surprised if it passed you by.

Last season focused on Albert Einstein. If Einstein brings to mind a wild-haired old man, you don't know half the story. Two wives, estranged sons (one who had some mental health issues), and immigration issues. (He lived in Germany before World War II. And was Jewish. Getting out was kind of a priority.)

And this was only in ten episodes.

I can't tell if it can be streamed from the website. Probably if you get NatGeo already. It looks like you can get it via YouTube, iTunes, and Amazon. I have no idea if it's on Netflix. (If someone knows, please leave a comment.)

Of course, the trailer...

Sometime this year there's supposed to be a season two. The topic will be Pablo Picasso. Keep an eye out for it.

Did you see Genius last year? Had you heard of it?

  2. I've read somewhere that he was kind of a dick. I wonder if the series covers that or not.

    1. Oh yeah. Especially to his first wife. (So, yes, in answer to your question, the series does cover that.)

  5. Hi Liz - I looked up the actors ... very good British ones - and I suspect the series will be an interesting take. The trailer was tantalising too ... good to know about - thank you - cheers Hilary

  6. I have heard of the show, but I haven't watched it. It seemed to have a good (sounding) cast, if I recall correctly. It's not on Netflix yet. At least not their streaming service.

  7. That does sound like a good show. I've never seen it while perusing Netflix, which is a shame. I hope I can see it sometime.

  8. I hadn't heard of it, and if I can't get my new Roku to work, I probably never will (frustrating sigh. Remind me that if older technology works, don't replace it.) Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. From what I've seen in the comments, it looks like the best way to see Genius is to view it via NatGeo on cable. I don't think the Roku will work in this case.

  13. That sounds like an awesome series! What a fun way to learn about people from the past! Do you think the episodes are scholastic enough to be used in classes? Or is it more of an "entertainment" type show?

    1. It's definitely entertainment. Considering his womanizing ways, one would definitely avoid putting this in a classroom setting :-O

  14. I'd not heard of that. Thank you for sharing. I find his life and that of Benjamin Franklin, Mary Shelley, artists like Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, Maya Angelou, and Nicolai Tesla particularly fascinating. Be well!

  19. He was quite the bad boy and I felt bad for his first wife since most people don't know about her at all. I did watch it and my hubby and I thought it was quite good. I will be looking forward to Picasso and whoever sees when it is on, can tell the other...if you follow my train of thought. Picasso will be quite the challenge since he was a big a-hole to be honest

    1. Seems like most of these big name geniuses were assholes one way or the other.

I'm guessing March, but we'll see. I've seen no official date.
