What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.
On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.
Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉
I keep seeing this type of scenario pop up on social media, so I thought, why not?
What if at work a colleague resigned and your boss told you that the colleague wouldn't be replaced and now you're responsible for their work, too? (And you won't be getting a raise or promotion.)
I'd say no.
ReplyDeleteI would continue working my usual schedule. what I get done is what I get done.
ReplyDeleteThat is a WHAT IF that most state of TN employees have lived through before. If you need to pay bills, you keep your mouth shut and you do the work.
ReplyDeleteI've already had that happen. I dealt with it.
ReplyDeleteI lived through that once and, in fact, it ended up with me doing the work of formerly three people. I hung on for several months because it was a smallish office and I didn't want to leave my remaining coworkers (who were in similar situations because, by then, others were quitting) in an even worse situation, but I finally walked.
ReplyDeleteI had to cover for an employee that was a no show for days, and they kept giving her more chances to show up, but not covering her. It was difficult. Fortunately, I was hourly so didn't clock out until I was finished! If I didn't get paid for the extra work, well, it just wouldn't get done. You can only do so much. Unless we assume that coworker didn't do much to begin with, so no need to replace her or him!
ReplyDeleteSome people are jerks.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Fat chance, I'd say, nice one, great joke. And then go on as usual as if they'd never said a word, doing only my own work. If they brought it up again, to my face, I'd giggle and say, "You're so funny" and go on as usual again.
ReplyDeleteFortunately I haven't worked a J-O-B in 24 years because otherwise I'd say that would suck.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that. Not there anymore. Gee, I wonder why I left?
ReplyDeleteIt depends if I had the luxury to say so long. Some people don't have that ability to choose but I'd be asking for a raise and/ or more vacation.
ReplyDeleteBeen there!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a choice back then as the company I worked for was laying people off. And we were getting a pay cut on top of that!
