Covid Update

Currently it is almost 1 PM on January 1st. As is my habit, I write my blog posts ahead and schedule them for the upcoming week.

Before winter break, I put together the blog posts for last week, this week, and next week, leaving Mondays open for whatever I happened to knit or crochet. As last Sunday was Christmas, I wrote my Monday post on Friday, and I showed off my Calash scarf that was so close to complete I just knew it would be done by today.

And then Christmas Day I tested positive for Covid.

Deep sigh.

As of right now, I am still Covid positive. I felt terrible for a couple days. I felt pretty normal for a couple days. Today, my sinuses are a bit stuffed up. But school doesn't start up for over a week, so I should be back to normal by then. Hopefully.

I haven't really been of a mood to knit the last week, so no progress on the scarf. When I do pull it out again (today? tomorrow? this week? next week?), it'll probably be a sitting or two to complete. It's that close.

Until then, I figured I should give the illness update.

I did get some goodies for Christmas:

These are some great little yarn-y accessories. The cassette tape thingie is a needle gauge. The other is a keychain with small crochet hooks on it. It's the perfect size to bring along for projects as if one drops a stitch, those crochet hooks come in handy. (They wouldn't be great for a project, but they're perfect in a pinch.)

And the rest are stitch markers. You can never have too many stitch markers.

I've been around the blogosphere. I will be again this week. I mean, I do have a full week's worth of posts already scheduled, so it's just the visiting. I'm not so sick that I can't sit up and read and type on the computer.

I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Take care. And may you avoid the dread plague. I'll see you around.

  1. Hi! Happy New Year, maybe?? Man, Covid is the worst. Everyone in my family has had it and it's just so weird how the levels of sickness are from sniffles to all out, sprawled in bed thinking they're on death's door. Well, I hope you feel better soon and that you are in great health for ALL of 2023. After last year with life around me, health is the greatest blessings.

    1. Thanks. I am on an improving trend, and I would totally be up for being out and about, but I'm remaining in isolation so as to not spread the dread plague. Health is indeed important.

  2. Covid, and sickness in general, is rampant where I live, and, like you, I've observed everything from mild sniffles to hospitalization (a person with heart issues) and even one possible case of Long Covid. I also know two people who had rebounds after Paxlovid.Despite this barfy beginning, I can hope that the rest of your year is much, much better.

  3. I was going to myself "Is that a cassette tape???" when I saw that picture. It feels like an item geared towards a very specific age group. XD

    1. Yeah, the gadgets are fun. Thanks. I feel worlds better than I did last Monday, and last Monday I wasn't too bad.

  5. So sorry that you got COVID. It sounds like a good time to rest and do relaxing things like watch TV and movies. I hope you feel better soon.

  6. I'm glad your feeling better, however testing positive surely puts a damper on your break as far as getting out and doing things.
The gauge is very cute, and clever.
Take care of yourself. It's good we have Internet and all to stay occupied!

    1. Luckily, I had no plans for the break other than taking it easy. I was feeling tired, so I thought I'd rest. Little did I know the universe would take this plan to heart and enforce it a wee bit.

  9. Sorry to hear you’re still under the weather, Liz. I suppose the silver lining is that it’s too wet and cold to be outdoors. Happy New Year!

  10. Sorry you came down with it on Christmas. My cousin got it as well. You should be fine by school!

  11. O, no! On Christmas! Hope you are feeling better. From what I have seen here is that for those who have had vaccines it's fairly mild.
Over the last two years, thrice I had cough and cold, and once with very mild fever. Unusual for me.
But not so severe for me to stay in bed. Only when I had that slight temperature, I stayed at home.
I really don't know if any of that was Covid or not!

  12. Oh No, so Sorry to hear The Rona has complicated your Holidays, but glad your bout with it doesn't seem Serious or have the nasty complications that it can have for some people. When I had it I felt near Death so I don't want to get it again, but it's making it's rounds this Winter, so I'll likely get the newest Booster to be on the Safe Side. Get Well and enjoy the New Year.

    1. Have you taken a Covid test? I didn't think mine was Covid, and it was. Sigh.

  14. I've scheduled posts during A to Z, but don't tend to do it the rest of the year. If I did, maybe I'd be more regular in the blogosphere! Good idea!
    Feel better soon!

    1. The trick to that is to have a specific day of the week when you do it and to have specific goals for the posts. You already have a posting schedule. But you have to do what works for you.

  15. So many folks around here are sick with one thing or another. I don't think most people even test to see if its Covid because the free test kits are long gone or expired. The ones I have left are expired but maybe they'd still work, don't know. I"m so lucky I've not caught any of the main illnesses going around here---Covid, RSV and the flu.

    1. It turns out that on some of them, they extended the expiration by six months. There's a website with the updated dates. Your kits might be fine.

    1. Yeah, it wasn't fun. If I recall correctly, I tested negative on the 5th, so your comment ended up being completely correct. (I didn't see it at the time. Sorry.)

  17. Summer holidays combined with Christmas are not conducive for keeping up to date with the blogosphere. Catching up now to read your posts (although I won't comment on them all and drive you crazy, lol). I am a little envious of your stitch markers - I have a grand total of zero :( It does make for some interesting crocheting.

    1. I inherited stitch markers from my great-grandmother that aren't split ring, so they were less then helpful for crochet. These ones are even better than the ones I bought myself several years ago.
