Painful

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

What if you had a pain that pain medication didn't help at all? (I know, this is actually a thing for some.)

  1. Depends on how painful and it I was unable to go about my daily life. Just this morning the subject of assisted suicide came up (by the gas station attendant of all people!) and later my son and I were discussing it, and how Oregon is one of the only states to allow it. It things were bad enough, I'd take that route, and be grateful my state made it legal.

  4. Thinking of the pain that some of my back episodes have caused me, I can not imagine what living with that pain for month after month would be like. My answer would have to be "deal with it as best I can". Chronic pain is a terrible thing.

  5. It's a thing. That is why folks put on pain meds end up being junkies. It stops helping the pain, they keep upping the amount....and so on and so on. Hence the reason I do not, even with my pain level, take script pain meds.

  6. Chronic pain is a horrible thing. My friend, before she died, was in such awful pain, from her back and from chronic pancreatitis. She would lay for days on the bathroom floor when the pancreatitis flared up which was basically anytime she ate anything. She was on codeine for her back and she got addicted, in her early 80's but what's the problem, I thought, when she was in such pain.

    1. Yeah, chronic pain can be terrible. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

  7. I would say what most of the others have said. If there wasn't a solution, you just end up dealing with it the best you can.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
