Agony of Defeat

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

What if your mistake caused your team to lose?

  1. A sports teams comes to mind first, then a team at work. I would hope we'd be playing for fun, and not professionally, for my team mates would be more likely to accept a loss due to my error. We all make them. Next game someone else may made the mistake. In a professional setting, it could have negative implications to my career, and even the company's reputation and contract, and less forgivable. Hope you're feeling better, and testing negative.

    1. I was thinking sports too, but I kept it general as it could be anything with a team. As for the Covid, I'm on the mend.

  2. It's always hard when you make a mistake, and harder if you feel guilty for a mistake that impacts others!

Hope you have a great start to the new year :)

    1. Hence the question: it's not so bad when it's someone else's mistake, but when it's yours...

    2. I agree. It's really not so bad when the mistake is someone else's but I would beat myself up when the mistake is mine.

      Happy 2023!

  3. It would suck, but hopefully I'd learn from that mistake. And nobody killed me.

  5. I would feel extremely bad. There is no point in rueing about it beyond a point. So, I would move on. I would learn lesson from it, and hope I would not make the mistake again!

  6. If at the end of the season there were no rings being given out or trips to Disneyland it wouldn't bother me much. Hopefully, it's all in fun.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
