Speculative fiction has a long history of taking the issues of the day and reframing them in a new context with the hope that people will look at them in a new way. Our "unprecedented" times are bringing all sorts of old ways and old thinking back to the forefront. On Tuesdays, I present "what if?" questions. Previously, the intent was as an idea generator. It still is. But now, I ask that you really think about all the repercussions that these ideas will have. If only these were just thought exercises.
What if no one stands up to the bullies who think they own everything, letting them do what they want, pooping all over the place and making our home a mess?
While the question is general on purpose, it was prompted by the Canadian geese who take up residence in my condo complex during the spring and early summer. But apply "bully" to whomever you like.
If no one stood up to them, they'd take over and the rest of us would end up cowering in our homes. We can't sit still, shut up, and expect others to stop the bullies. We may not be bullied currently, but if no one stand up to them, eventually they'll get to us.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
DeleteWe'll all end up drowning in their shit.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteWe’ve seen what happens … 1939.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteSongbird's right.
ReplyDeleteShe is.
DeleteAhh yes, the geese can be bullies..I used to be bullied but by white geese. One has to stand up to them, show no fear and never give in to their macho manner. Right now, I feel you live in the land of the free..As long as you do as they say or else.
ReplyDeleteThe geese are terrible. We're hoping they're getting ready to fly away.
DeleteEvery things has a group of bullies, and usually they don't do there dirty work. And come right down to it, usually there pretty cowardly.
ReplyDeleteBullies are the recurring theme in human history. It's quite a depressing history, too. We had no lack of bullies aka despots in the 20th century, the century I grew up in. 1920-30's Soviet Union. 1930's Germany. Mid and late 1970's Cambodia. We know what happened. The 21st century will be continuing the tradition. And yet, we let these despots come to power, and some seem to crave them being in charge.
ReplyDeleteI just don't get it. But I guess I don't have to.
DeleteWe might as well dig our own graves if no ody wants to stand up against bullies.
