Infinite Playlist

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.

What if "they" are using the music you listen to as a way to control you?

  1. I think "they" are doing just that currently. Maybe not with music but with other advertisements while out shopping and the like. It is wise advice about washing hands and social distancing and wearing a mask but it people haven't gotten that and taken it to heart by now they never will. I don't need to hear it when I'm out shopping on the loud speaker or see messages about it while I'm driving on the freeway and other roads. Oops, getting off of soap box now :)

  2. Considering I don't listen to music all that much, they aren't doing a very good job.

  3. Well, Good Luck to them but I better get out my Slim Perkins records and allow him to yodel so their heads explode. Hey, I tried doing last week's quiz and I couldn't get on it for some reason...very strange

  6. That's not so far-fetched. I've heard there are lots of subliminal messages in the music we listen to. Certainly on a noticeable level, the lyrics of many songs condone drug use and alcohol use, which encourages our kids to use that stuff and get in trouble.

  7. I believe big league sports are a way to control people, in a sense, like the ancient Romans distracting citizens with those bread and circus events. And I hate that there are multiple televisions in every restaurant these days. At least I don't miss eating out. ;)

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
