Erased

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

Like last week, I'm stealing this week's question, but this time from a more recent source--the updated The Twilight Zone on CBS All Access...

What if you could delete someone from existence just by talking about them?

  1. Oh my gosh; I don't think there would be too many people left LOL. I talk about everyone LOL and its not always good. Then wouldn't I be erased if someone talked about me?

  2. That might be a little dangerous. Within an hour, none of us would exist.

  3. I don't think there would be anyone around to answer the question.

  4. Alex is partially correct. I would keep my own family and extended family. As for the rest, well maybe.

  5. No I wouldn't want to. Because the end could be a lot worst.

  6. If I'm speaking in my faith I would say no. If I'm speaking as a pissed off Italian woman I would say yes but only one person. :)

    1. I'm sure you could think of a few others ;)

  7. Well. I know who I'd talk about first...but I think Alex is right. There's a reason we humans don't have that power; we'd abuse it!!!

  8. Ooo, what an intriguing question! Only one person I can think of... But I agree with Marcy Hatch and Alex Cavanaugh. Too dangerous!

  9. That's a slippery slope, for sure.

  10. I agree with a number of your other commenters. There would be few people left and the rest of us would be so frightened. I'm too cheap to get CBS All Access so I have not seen any of the TZ reboot episodes.

    1. I only got it because they were doing a free trial month. If they ever do that again, you should jump.

    1. Notice, I just said "you", not anyone else...

  12. Oh goodness! A lot of people would cease to exist - and that makes me sound really horrible. I really don't talk about a lot of people in a bad way, but the way you talk about them wasn't specified, so I guess basically anyone would be gone. And Jason Momoa - I talk about Jason Momoa a lot, so JASON MOMOA WOULD BE GONE!

    I don't know if I like this.

    1. I did not specify *how* you talked about them, true. (And in the episode referenced, it wasn't just negative talk that made the people disappear.)

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
