Going Obsolete
At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉
What if you learned your blogging platform was being discontinued? (No, I haven't heard anything. It's just a random question.)

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

I sincerely hope they just don't switch it off! But we've no idea where 'life on the internet' is taking us and how far forward we can trust it to be there ... take care - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI'd be wondering if it was being replaced with something else and if I wanted to participate in it. This happened back in 2007/2008 when AOL used to have journals and then it dissolved and everywhere went to Blogger. Some people at that time decided not to go over and gave up blogging. So it is conceivable it could happen with Blogger perhaps down the line. I'm not impressed with Word Press. If I didn't find a good substitute, I'd probably give up blogging then.

I'd probably give up blogging. I'm already teetering on that edge. I haven't even fixed the email problem with my current set-up. If I had to start from scratch? Eh, I'd say phooey and toss the towel in.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. But you're not the only one losing steam. It seems that a lot of bloggers I follow are not that keen on it any longer.
DeleteAfter a moment of panic I'd find another one for both my blog and the IWSG.
ReplyDeleteSince I started blogging, I already changed twice, so I'm ok with a third change if it's necessary 😉
ReplyDeleteI'd be annoyed but unsurprised. That kind of thing happens a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably give up blogging but I wouldn't be happy. I am not ready to learn WordPress. I would hope for a backup - my blog is practically an online diary.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Blogger is going anywhere, anyway.
DeleteI’d freak! I would then find out where everyone else was going and change up but I would still be sad.
ReplyDeleteIt would be sad.
DeleteLiz,
ReplyDeleteI'd shop for another one. I currently use WordPress. Previously, I used Blogger. There was a learning curve but it wasn't difficult to adjust. It was just different. Anyone who's of average intelligence shouldn't have any problem migrating to a new platform, you just need patience and the right attitude. ;)
Ouch...what would I do. I guess I would be on the out look for yet another one. However, I would really dislike having to do all that.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how many of us were on a different platform before the one we're on now.
