At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉
I ran across this article the other day. In case you don't want to click the link:
By removing carbon dioxide from the air, trees are one of our strongest allies in the fight against climate change. And if we planted a whole lot more of them in just the right places, they could reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere to levels not seen in nearly 100 years, researchers say.By Stephanie DeMarco, via the L.A. Times, July 4, 2019.
Which sparked this question:
What if we built towns (or cities!?!) in the forests?
Oh, I'm picturing the wood elf community described by Tolkien. I would love that! As for trees, a master gardener in my area says, "The best time to plant a tree is yesterday." ~nods~ Be well!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that would be a fun world.
DeleteI live in a heavily-wooded area, so I think this would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey quiet the world, don't they?
DeleteI've never understood why they completely clear an area for a subdivision. Leave some trees or plant new ones. We had one tree in our yard when we moved in. We now have over a dozen.
ReplyDeleteI am all for it since developers love clearing the land and then call it Shady Glen or Sherwood Forest...dumb actually.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they're hoping that'll bring the trees back...
DeleteIt would be nice although it would be sort of unnerving to have trees around you all the time. You wouldn't be able to see if anything's coming.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a blessing in the heat of Phoenix. The shade of trees does make a bit of a difference from the unrelenting sun so I'm all for it!
ReplyDeletebetty
It used to be that a developer would plant a tree for each house he built. I don't know why they stopped. It's a shame that quite a lot of people don't understand how the oxygen-CO2 cycle works.
ReplyDeleteI personally would love to have a tiny tree house to live in!! Part of the big issue is that when building trees are taken away, torn down. It takes a lot of yrs to get a tree big enough to shade a home or yard and its really a shame that so many big ones are taken down! I think we all should plant a tree every yr. of our life. I have planted a few in my life time.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the show Treehouse Masters? He builds showcase treehouses.
DeleteYes, plant more trees.
Nope...I have not seen that. I never was a routine sort of person till I aged and then all of a sudden I see that I do the same thing all the time. ...I say that cause I have my certain channels, although with cable I have tons, I have my certain shows and I make sure I either record them or I am there to watch them....ROUTINE! Goodness i sure got OLD.
DeleteI'm like that too. I believe Treehouse Masters in on NatGeo. You should check it out.
