This month's knitting "theme" has been Projects that Fell by the Wayside. But I don't know if that really applies to this week's photos. I'll let you decide.
The thing that makes a big difference in how long a project takes is the weight of the yarn used. My niece's Gray Behemoth only took about a week because the yarn was huge/heavy. For these scarves, I've been using fingering weight, which is a very fine yarn. So, something scarf sized is going to take a whole lot of stitches and way more time.
I put these projects aside with all the others when I started my Christmas knitting. But they were the first ones I picked up. And they're not nearly done.
I started the turquoise one on June 4th (according to its Ravelry page). I've made quite a lot of progress on it, but it still has a ways to go...
I got the color to come out almost correctly (it's a bit darker than this). It's an infinity scarf, so I'm working it the long way around. The width is almost there. I'm using a stitch pattern called Broken Chevron...
...which is hard to see here. I'll have to block it well once it's finished.
The purple passion one I started on November 11th (it has a Ravelry page, too). It took me a while to wind the yarn and pick the stitch pattern, and then I had to rip it out and start over due to a miscalculation. But it's coming along...
It's a much more fun stitch pattern, so I find myself working on it more frequently than the other.
But since the turquoise had a five month head start, it'll probably be finished first.
I'll keep plugging away on them. And I'll post pictures once they're completely completed. Which is taking a good long while. But that's because of the fine yarn, which means they'll be lovely lightweight scarves when finished.
I mean, I'm bound to finish them eventually, right? Right?!?
Oh, I hope so...
Have you ever worked on a project that seemed to take forever? Did you finish it? Do you like infinity style scarves?

My current manuscript is one of those projects.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have a Halloween project that's been sitting in a closet off and on for many, many years. It deserves to be finished, too. ~sigh~ Happy Crafting!
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet you think of it about a week before Halloween. That's the way those always seem to work.
DeleteI do like the pattern of the infinity scarf and the color of both of them. How do you store the projects that you aren't working on? In some type of bag so they don't pick up dust or lint or whatever?
ReplyDeletebetty
Lovely scarves, I love infinity scarf but never did one (yet). Of course I have unfinished projects, some are still waiting... 😉
ReplyDeleteInteresting how you find one pattern more fun than another, as they look so similar to me. But that's clearly because I have no experience with knitting. I just think it's neat how different it must be for someone who does know what they're doing :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too. :) --great colors, btw.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it won't become a dreaded UFO...
DeleteMy many unfinished quilt projects are in a quilting dresser.
ReplyDeleteI have an infinity scarf woven by Joanne Noragon. I used it up in mountains and it was awesome.
I bet it's stunning.
DeleteI love both the colors of those. Nice work also. I need to find my inner ump and start doing somethings. I have put painting, crafting, wood working and so much more on the back burner while I just chill some. I feel that I havae been slammed by one thing or the other since the end of Dec., and I am finding it really hard to find the old Pam I was. NEED A CHEERLEADER!!! Or somoene to light a fire under my rear....
ReplyDeleteConsidering how this year has gone for you so far, I think you're in need of time to just chill. You'll get back to your projects when you're ready for them.
DeleteWhen infinity scarves became popular several years ago I tried to find a crochet pattern that Suited me but it never happened. Yours look nice. But I do have a closet full of half (or less) finished crochet projects (I don't knit). Sigh!
ReplyDeleteI treat infinity scarves like regular scarves. I just fine a nice stitch pattern and go. Of course, finding a nice stitch pattern is the challenge.
DeleteBoth of your scarves are beautiful! If I had to choose, I would pick the turquoise. Quit a Bad Habit to Avoid Burnout
ReplyDeleteThanks. That is a beautiful color.
DeleteI had a project I would work on, get angry with how long it took, toss it in the coroner. Look at it for a while ... so pretty if done ... and pick it up again. Took two years, and worth every gripe.
ReplyDeleteAnd finished is the best part of the story, I bet.
DeleteI love the green yarn. It's so pretty. But you are right, the pattern of the purple scarf looks more fun =)
ReplyDeleteThe lucky people who get to wear your darling scarves. I've sewn infinity scarves. Maybe it's time to do another.
ReplyDeleteIts all so beautiful! I'm in awe!
ReplyDeleteI haven't finished a knitting project for 50 years, even squares (maybe I finished a couple of those).
ReplyDeleteKnitting not your thing? Cool. More yarn for me ;)
DeleteWhat is your blog address? I can't seem to find it.
Those scarves are lovely. I like the colors. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteLove the scarves especially the purple colour but I like teal as well. I have put things off for years and need to get my butt in gear and start them
ReplyDeleteDon't we all?
DeleteThe scarves look very nice, Liz.
ReplyDeleteI have been working on a book for ages. Started on one, left it, went back to it multiple times over the last few years, and it looks like I would go back to it a few more times, and hopefully some day it will get completed!
The irony is that if I were to club all that I have been writing as a part of my work in the newsroom ... that would be more than one book for sure!
Books go like that. I'm confident you'll get it done eventually.
