Redwoods

Nope, I didn't travel to northern California for today's post. I saw these while walking along in a local park.

Not the big one in the center. The little ones on the sides of the picture. My father tells me these are redwood trees.

I'm not so sure. Clearly, they are babies, not like the huge ones that live in the forests up north.

Apparently they're doing better than the last time my father and his wife took a walk in this park. There are leaves. There weren't any leaves before.

I'll take his word on this one. I needed an R for today.

Have you ever been to the redwood forests? Do you have a favorite tree?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. I’ve only been to California once, a four day business trip to San Diego. I’d love to see the redwood trees.

  3. I had the pleasure of visiting San Francisco and CA wine country back in 1988. Unfortunately, my boyfriend at the time wrecked our rental car into a ditch among the giant redwoods. He shouldn't even have been driving since it was in my name. Oops. I dumped him the next year, tired of his neverending careless antics. Heh... Be well!

  4. I have been subbing since February and have not yet blogged about it. I am not sure if we got as far as the Redwoods when we went to California in the early 70's I somewhat recall something like it. I'll ask my Mom tomorrow.

    1. It would depend on where you went if you saw the redwoods. Great if you did see them.

I didn't start out blogging about subbing. My first reader informed me those were my best posts, and I went with it.

  5. I've only been to California twice - once was to change planes on a flight from Portland, OR to New York City. The other time was to spend a week in San Diego. So, no redwoods that I know of - I never would have guessed your two small trees were. My favorite tree? It might well be the Linden. I love the flowers of cherry trees, too.

    1. I wouldn't have guessed either, except my father said they were.

  6. We took our Gr-daughters to Sequoia early April. Snow was still 6 ft deep in some places. It was a phenomenal visit.

  9. Interesting redwoods growing where you are at. I have been to the redwoods in Northern California. Pretty impressive. I like maple and oak trees when they are losing their leaves in the fall and how colorful they are. These days though I see lots of cactus :) (are they a tree??)

  10. Hi Liz - I saw lots I'm sure when I was on Vancouver Island ... now yours are producing leaves perhaps they're recovering from the drought conditions you've had in recent years. I love our Rowan trees here - full of red berries for the birds and wild animals ... cheers Hilary

  11. We've been to Sequoia, but you don't actually have to go there to see giant Redwood trees, they're all over. Typically they're to tall to even fit on a picture ;-)

  12. We've been to Muir Woods near San Francisco. It was like walking into a living being. The very air felt alive. R is for Reframe the Problem

  13. I've been told that redwoods grow quickly. We've found a strand of second growth in Santa Cruz county that we like to drive through now and then. I like the feeling of being among the red giants.

  15. If they are, I am glad they are being planted but it will take a thousand years to reach the great height of the redwood forest which i still need to see. I love trees from the beautiful red maple to the red oak trees. I love the birch for the white bark and I love the willow and how the branches falls in a cascade.

    1. We don't want them huge in that park, anyway. One stiff Santa Ana wind, and they'd be gone.
