A Dragon

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

This Dutch flower parade (similar to the Rose Parade) popped up on my Facebook timeline recently. And, as I've been reading some dragon fiction lately, it made me think...

What if that dragon was real?

  1. Depends on the dragon. Smaug - not good. Toothless - good.

  2. I like what Alex said. Good dragons I could take, the other ones I wouldn't want to be real.

  3. Just call me Daenerys...

Really, I love dragons. I’ve loved them since I read the first book in the Pern series.

    1. Ah yes, Anne McCaffery. I've always wanted to be a dragon rider...

  4. I'd be all over that. There is not one single problem that cannot be solved by a dragon.

  5. Then I want that dragon to be wise and courteous, and have a happy level of tolerance along with a wonderful sense of humor.

  6. I want the dragons to be like those found in The Dragonriders of Pern. Dibs on the white dragon, Ruth.

  7. Hmmm....I have always been drawn to dragons and find them cool...that is the geek in me. Thinking they could cook me with their breath and eat me...I’ll pass:)

  8. I was born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon so feel an affinity with them. There have been some wonderful depictions of them in art over the years. Those medieval paintings are terrifying!

    1. And I dislike Chinese years for the same reason. (I didn't get anything as cool as a dragon.)

  9. Oh, those floats are stunning! Thank you for sharing. If dragons were real, I would so want to ride one everywhere. :) Be well!

  10. And I thought the Rose Parade was awesome. Another addition to my bucket list has just been made. Anne McCaffrey would have loved it.

  11. Well they'd be in trouble since his snoot is open and I'm guessing he wouldn't be taking too kindly to being tied down like that. lol

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
