It's Alive

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.😉

What if inanimate objects were alive in another dimension? (What if we're the inanimate objects there?)

  1. My guitar would probably tell me 'Dude - learn how to play!'

  2. I'm not entirely convinced we're not the inanimate objects.

  4. My computer has already punished me enough. I dread to think what it does to me in that other directions.

  5. I tend to name inanimate objects I like. Talk to them, too. But the idea of me being an inanimate object, well, I hope I have an owner like me.

  6. Interesting thought. I'm not sure I would relish the thought of being inanimate.

  8. That would be very strange, and I think Frank Herbert did something like that in...The Dosadai Experiment. There were chair dogs and once you sat down they conformed to your body. Kinda creepy.

  9. What a riot it would be, with so many things alive around me!

  10. Maybe they're alive in this dimension and we're just not paying attention.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
