Too Dark for Brown Eyes
I was doing my usual walk-around, making sure all the students were on task. A couple of them were fiddling with their monitors. Occasionally, students will start playing with the controls on the monitors, so I stopped to see what was the matter. (Sometimes things break...)
"We're adjusting the brightness. It's too dark for our dark brown Mexican eyes..."
Which was one of the silliest things I'd heard in a while.
Me: "Too dark for brown eyes? I have brown eyes, too..."
They had been facing away from me. Now they turned around. Peered into my eyes.
"Oh, you do! For some reason, I thought your eyes were blue."
*shaking my head* If they wanted to adjust the brightness on their monitors, I wasn't going to stop them. But they find excuses for just about everything.

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

LOL :)They probably have to practice excuses anytime they can just to be prepared when they need a really good one :)

Sometimes I think it's a reflex. Teacher says something. Must make excuse.
DeleteYou took away their excuse at least.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever make a joke with them, or do you think teachers should not be poking fun with the students?
ReplyDeleteHahaha! That's funny. I'm glad you can beat them at their own game. :)
ReplyDeleteI think this was the first time my eyes gave me the advantage in a conversation.
DeleteCrazy kids!
ReplyDeleteYup
DeleteThat is a bizarre excuse. I think it's the first time I've ever heard someone try to claim that eye color affects how bright you need the computer.
ReplyDeletePoints for originality. Did you ever wonder if you had a budding future mega million dollar comedian in any of your classes? Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI wonder sometimes. Some of them have the talent for it.
DeleteDo they realize that brown eyes are dominant? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteGotta love their imaginations! They're incredibly creative.
ReplyDeleteThat was definitely a new one.
DeleteI guess that explains why my husband, who has hazel eyes, has to darken screens which to him appear too bright ... except that that doesn't happen. :-P
ReplyDeleteToo funny.
DeleteQuite an imaginative excuse really. Scientifically incorrect but creative nonetheless!
ReplyDeleteYeah, well, they're not big on the science (even though everyone loves the science teacher).
DeleteThey were assuming you would disagree with what they were doing. I have no words but shake my head
ReplyDeleteThat's a new one on me. I've got brown eyes too but never had a problem.
ReplyDeleteSo that's why I like to have the contrast up on my screen, it's because of my blue eyes! Finally I have an explanation. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNow you know ;)
DeleteHa! Well that's definitely a new one. Guess my Mexican brown eyes are the cause of my bright monitor too. Hmmm.
