Strong or Fast?

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.

Not so much a what if as one of those random arguments that someone always seems to come up with...

What if you could have super strength or super speed? You can only pick one, and if you have super strength, you're very, very slow or if you have super speed, you're very, very weak.

  1. Oh, another interesting question! I think I would go with super strength because even though I would be slow, I would still hopefully be able to fight anyone that was attacking me and would be stronger than them. I rather be strong than fast :)

  2. I have always been weak physically so I will go with super fast. I can get to places maybe much faster than a car. I can get to many fun places and if anyone wants to thump me, I can outrun them:)

  3. I would prefer super strength. Being an impatient person, I'm wondering if I could put up with being very slow, but hopefully, 'strength' will include not only physical strength but also strength to be patient.

  4. I'd pick speed. I might be weak, but if I aim correctly, I can launch projectiles that can easily do more damage than anyone with super strength.

  5. I'd definitely go with strength. Various health conditions have messed up both at various times in my life but I am much more bothered when I need help opening a jar. Imaging myself lifting a car and throwing it is very appealing.

  6. Speed. I'm not a person who likes to slow down!

  7. I'd like to be super fast. Did you see the latest XMen movie where the guy can do that? He wasn't strong but he could get a lot accomplished in a minute. Think: housework!

    1. No, I haven't seen any X-Men in a while... (years, I think). I hadn't thought of housework--that would be cool!

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
