What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.
On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.
Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉
I have heard that there are countries where everyone is required to vote. Considering how low voter turnout can be in the U.S., I wondered a few things. (Although, my brain made a weird turn, and I thought about how that would affect voter suppression.) Anyway...
What if voting was required of every U.S. citizen over the age of 18?
Hmmm, I like the idea. However I fear what those votes would be, if you don't care enough to do it in the first place. Would it just be random selections?
ReplyDeleteLet’s improve high school civics first…
ReplyDeleteI agree with that and Canada should also have that as a law.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of it but I think those that don't want to do it would find a way to get out of it like Jury Duty.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good idea. When I was living in Italy it was like that. I’m not sure if things have changed now…
ReplyDeleteI agree with Songbird. We need good civics education first (although, how do we educate adults?) and then this would be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if more wanted to vote, but I wouldn't want it compulsory. That just is the first slippery step to other things forced on us by authorities.
