Pay It Forward

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

So this just happened to me (as I write this on Friday). . .

What if the car in front of you just paid for your drive through order?

  1. Easy one, I would pay it forward. The next time I went I would pay for the person behind me :)

  2. Well, when I use the drive-through, it comes to very little (usually just an iced coffee or a special from the app), so I doubt I could afford to pay for the order behind me! A fast food meal costs between $8 and $10 now where I live! So, I'd think, "How nice of them," take it and drive on my way.

    1. Also a valid response. Especially if you don't have much on you.

  3. I rarely...rarely go through drive through as I don't drink coffee. That being said, I had that happen once to me..I was getting an orange juice and they told me the man paid for it. Did I pay it forward...not that time because I didn't have enough money on me and I don't like using debit there. The next time..maybe 6 month or a year later, I did do it..it made me feel good.

    1. Yeah, you have to gauge it. Do you have enough on you? Sometimes, you only have what you were planning to spend.

  4. First, I'd wonder why I was in the drive through as we never eat fast food.
Then I'd pay for the car behind me.

  5. I would pay it forward like Martha said. This has yet to happen to me though I hear others tell of it.

  6. I'm in Alex's camp. We don't do fast food except when traveling (which means, nowadays, never) and we usually go into the store to use the rest room. But if someone did pay for our food, I would want to pay it forward next time.

    1. I used to never get fast food, but I've gotten back into it.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
