Masked

I wanted to make an orange version of the crocheted mask that I made for my sister-in-law (for her birthday) for me for Halloween of last year. I never finished it. Until now...

So... there are some issues. For one thing, it's huge. This is what happens when patterns don't include gauge. Grrrr.

(Gauge is a little thing that says X number of stitches measures Y inches or centimeters. Sometimes I meet gauge, but most times I don't. However, when I don't, I know how to tweak things so that I don't get a finished project that's way off size-wise.)

Although, my last attempt wasn't this big. So, my stitches have loosened? It's possible.

Ah well. At least now it's finished. Another project that fell by the wayside is done. And just in time for M day.

What do you think of my mask? Did you ever attempt to make something and it didn't come out as expected?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. I think you did a nice job on the mask! It looks intricate. And no, I've never tried making anything like that.

    1. I figure most of my readers aren't crocheters, so I made the questions a bit more broad. Thanks.

  2. It is a little big, but not so much so in my opinion. I like the color. Most of my cooking doesn't come out as expected, LOL!

  5. I've had several projects turn out weird because the colors aren't what I expected. I wonder why your mask came out different from the last one, though. It can't all be loose stitches, can it?

  6. Most things I make don't turn out as expected. :)

(Also, thank you for defining 'gauge'...)

  9. Well, there was the bikini I crocheted as a college student. On its maiden voyage into water the top detached itself and floated away....OK, not one of my better projects.

    1. Eeek. Crocheted bikinis are back in fashion, at least judging from my social media circles.

  10. Missed last Halloween so are you shooting for next? :) I have only basically done a throw or scarves. Nothing that you have to add or drop stitches.

    1. Yeah, we'll go with that. I don't really dress up, so it's not like I'm really going to wear it.

  11. I would never have thought of crocheting a mask. Very cool idea.

    1. I hadn't thought of it either until I stumbled upon the pattern in that blog post. I think I found it on Pinterest initially.

  12. I LOVE the mask. I've never seen another like it. Something about it looks so inviting. Perhaps it's all the socializing I've been doing lately. As an extreme introvert. I often wish I could just hide behind a mask--or anything. This is really beautiful. Mindfulness to Avoid Burnout
