Remember Me

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

What if you had the most brilliant what if story idea just as you were falling asleep? (Not like that happened to me yesterday or anything...)

  1. I'd wake myself up to write it down as it would be the first brilliant idea I've had in a very long time.

  2. Why do I doubt Alex's comment? ~grin~ I've already typed up notes on my old Kindle Fire's notepad app in a darkened bedroom. Heh... Sometimes they're not so brilliant by the light of day. But other times... Hope you remember your idea.

    1. Yeah, I do too. I had it in my head to grab my phone and type it in there, but I drifted off to sleep before I managed it. Alas, the idea is still gone...

  3. I write my "best" blog posts in the middle of the night when I'm trying to get back to sleep. Of course I remember nothing of them in the morning except that they sounded good at 2 o'clock in the morning. I think I would be too lazy to get up and try to write down anything especially if I was drifting off to sleep.

  4. I'm wary of trusting the judgment of falling asleep-me. She's thought some pretty bad ideas were great.

  5. Well if I felt it was a brilliant story that everyone would love to hear about, I would try to rise my tired old achy body and write it down CAUSE if I failed to, it would probably be gone come the next morning! With my living arrangements right now, my life in general things have gotten a tad off kilter but I normally keep a tablet and pencil on the night stand next to my bed.

  6. I would wake up and mark it down. I bet, the next morning, I would either find my writing ineligible or I would realize it was the dumbest idea ever and throw it out

    2. oh yeah but not before falling out of bed, hitting my head and crushing my fingers in the drawer trying to get to my pen.

  7. But frankly speaking, I do get these strange feelings when I am in that transit zone, between sleep and going to sleep :-)

  9. I've had plenty of brilliant thought before I fell asleep. But I'm to stupid to get up and write them down.

  10. Not being able to see without my glasses, I would probably get up, stub my toe, then decide I needed to go to the bathroom, and it would never get written.

    1. Last night I managed to put on my glasses (I awoke needing the bathroom) and fall asleep for another three hours...

  11. My phone is always next to me in bed so hopefully I'd make it to opening the email app and jotting some notes down. But I might just fall asleep since I'm not a writer. lol

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
