Future's Enemy

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

Let's posit a scenario. (This idea comes from the Timeless episode from last week.) Someone just tried to kill you. They failed. And while looking for answers, you stumbled across the crazy-sounding truth...

What if your would-be killler was a time traveller from the future sent back in time to get rid of you?

  1. I'd know I was destined to be a Looper. (Like the movie.)

  2. Wouldn't that be like some of the plots with the Terminator movies? I guess I would try to stay alive as long as possible and try to kill them since there may obviously be some reason why they want me dead to impact something in the future.

  3. Have you seen the "Twelve Monkey's" series? We enjoyed that time travel plot. Be well!

  5. Well that's nerve-racking. How about we not imagine that? ;)

    1. This is how you create good plots. Lots of tension :)

  6. Hmmm...I would assume that time traveller is evil and also must be getting me confused with someone else. I know I am not that important but I would want to kill that person first.

    1. I guess that depends on your vantage point. From yours, yeah, they'd have to be evil :)

  7. Well, then he could kill me. And create a future where he would never send him back in time, which mean I would never die. And then the paradox would destroy the world, just as I planned.

  9. I'd really wonder what on earth I did! And why the Terminator was after me.

  10. Reminds me of Terminator! I would love to know why someone would come back in time to kill me since I lead such a laid back retired life. All sorts of things would go though my mind like what am I going to do that will be so important this late in life but more than anything else, I would be looking for the cute guy that comes back in time to save me....haha

  11. Aha! I'm not good at writing fiction, but I am reading a book about time travel, sort of, and also apparently there will be some sort of romance, and meanwhile - the part I had the highest hopes for - a mystery.

I'm really disappointed in the book so far. I will force myself up to the 100th page.

    1. Life's too short to suffer through bad books.

  12. There would be very little to nothing that I could do. What did I do? Why? I would need to know the reason.

  13. First I would wonder why me? Then, if that's what's destined, I would try my best to escape.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
