This past Christmas (you know, the one just a couple weeks ago), my dad got one of those mini trees. They seem to sell them everywhere. They are lit with fiber optic cables.
My dad requested ornaments for it. So, what better time to knit ornaments for a Christmas tree than in January?
I showed off the full-sized ornaments I'd knit, but this tree would require something a bit smaller. I managed to find styrofoam balls in small sizes (.9 inch, 1.4 inch, and 1.9 inch diameters). Then it was just a matter of working out how many stitches I'd need.
Using odds and ends of yarn I already had...
I've got about four more to do to have a complete set. And then I might just put away my Christmas knitting. But then again, now's the perfect time to start my knitting for next year. (Nah...)
The smallest styrofoam balls got me thinking. Earrings. (We'll see...)

You'll be ahead of the game this year!
ReplyDeleteLike Alex said, you'll be way ahead of the game! The ornaments are cute. My cats would love them, too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! As you know I am making Christmas cards already and am thinking of giving some away as gifts (package of 10) plus I want to make tags. They look great and your dad will love them
ReplyDeleteThose ornaments look perfect for the tree! I'm sure you're dad will appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteHe seemed to like them. (That pic was taken at his house.)
DeleteThese are just too cute! I think it is always a good idea to get a head start on Christmas. But I never do!!
ReplyDeleteOne year I did start about this time. That was a glorious year. Haven't since.
DeleteThose look cute, but I'm not into Christmas ornaments at this stage of my life. Maybe later when I actually own a tree and decorate for the holidays. Did you see the new knitted beanies for babies that are done in such a way as to mimic a naked breast?
ReplyDeleteNever to early in my opinion, especially with these cute ornaments :) I hope your dad doesn't read your blog :)
ReplyDeletebetty
He doesn't, but I've already given them to him. (I owe him a Christmas present for this/last year.)
DeleteHow cute! What a perfect way to use up odds and ends. And I'm sure you can wait to start your Christmas knitting. You certainly seemed to fly through last year's in record time.
ReplyDeleteMy mom knits and she's started on gifts for Christmas already. Definitely not too early for a crafter. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Glad to know I'm not completely crazy.
DeleteThat looks like delicate work with being so small. And nothing wrong with Christmas knitting in January!
ReplyDeleteOo yay for getting to use left over yarn for a project :D
ReplyDeleteI imagine the cats would have such marvellous fun trying to claw them down from the tree :)
ReplyDeleteCute ornaments! It would be amazing to start preparing for next year's Christmas now. Not sure I could do it psychologically....
ReplyDeleteI did it one year. Once I got going, it wasn't too bad.
DeleteA great way to use up the scraps!
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteVery clever. Post photo?
ReplyDeleteDid the photo not come out? Or, do you mean post a photo with them on the tree?
