At the heart of much speculative fiction
(and fiction in general) is a question.
What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out
there and see what you make of it. Do with it
as you please. If a for-instance is not specified,
feel free to interpret that instance as you
wish. And if you find this becomes
a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a
thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉
I had the strangest thought in the shower the other day, and I thought it would make a good "what if?", so here goes...
What if you could talk to your younger self (and your younger self would believe it was you)? Would you warn them about 2020?
(I decided, while thinking about this, that my answer is no. But I have no idea if I'm in the majority or minority here.)
There's so much else I would have said to my younger self, 2020 is the least of it.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
DeleteI really have to agree with songbird's crazy world on this one!
ReplyDeleteI'd warn him the pandemic would not be the worst of it. I'd tell him to just keep the faith no matter what happens.
ReplyDeleteGood advice.
DeleteI agree with everyone else's answers. Great question to think about.
ReplyDeleteI would tell my younger self there are more important things like talking with your dad and learning more about him not that I can't go to the movies and have to wear a mask.
ReplyDeleteAnd it would depend on when you're talking to your younger self, too. I didn't specify that :)
DeleteOh I would have made sure to tell myself to hug my mum more last time I saw her! We just had the 6 week lockdown but it was hard not getting mum hugs then. Oh and probably not to buy so many crafts/activities for the kids in the juggle of working from home and helping them with school work and keeping them entertained. They really didn't need all the activity books and puzzles I bought, haha!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a lovely week :)
Away From The Blue
Good advice.
DeleteI'd have so many things to say to my young self that I don't think I would find the time to warn her about 2020.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we all would.
DeleteWow, I would tell many things.. :3
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if we could do that, wouldn't it?
DeleteMy older self was only inconvenienced by 2020, nothing much changed in my routine, so my younger self might have lived in anxiety for decades for no reason! The people I know all were responsible and safe, so I wouldn't have had to tell them either (except my nephew, who believes it was all a "scam." Not sure who's scam.).
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the reasons I wouldn't warn my younger self--no need to panic me when it wasn't as awful as it could have been.
DeleteIf I could talk to my younger self I might tell them about a lot of things to watch out for. HAHA....not really hoping to change my life but there might be a couple areas in that life that might need a little tweeking.
ReplyDeleteIf we could talk to our younger selves, we would definitely have things we would want them to know. That's why I narrowed this question down to 2020. Because is that specific advice you would have wanted?
