The Warning

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. ðŸ˜‰

One day I sat down to write a bunch of "what if?" questions to get a bit ahead on the blog. A theme emerged...

What if extra terrestrials were to reveal themselves to us tomorrow? What if they came to warn us of an intergalactic war that we are soon to be in the middle of?

You will be relieved to know that this is the last of the extra terrestrial questions, at least for the moment. Next week we'll go back to my usual random "what if?" topics.

  1. I would hope they would fight alongside us in the war and not be our enemies!

    1. Never, ever say anything like that. The universe loves to prove us wrong...

  5. I would be so delighted for extra-terrestrials to reveal themselves to us! Would they be our neighbors? Would some be celebrities? Global government officials? Social Media influencers? They would most likely have been disguised as people with a bit of sway - at least some of them.

I choose to think they're going to fight in the war alongside us, otherwise, why would they warn us?

  8. Being human like I am I would question what they hoped to gain and hope that I was wrong in thinking they might be up to something but then again, I would probably be questioning me on the fact that I was actually carrying on a conversation with them to begin with.

    1. They might be up to something. You never can tell for sure.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
