Lanterns in Trees

On last Saturday's walk with my father, we were on the lookout for Ls.

We parked next to a small park in a neighborhood. Then we did about a half hour (read: 20 minutes) stroll through the various culs de sac. My father mentioned leaves. I had thought about a picture of someone's legs. But nothing really struck me.

We got back into the car, and I looked back out at the park. And the trees. And the lanterns in the trees. And the lanterns in the trees that we had noticed before we started on our walk.

Sometimes, I really am not paying attention.

I jumped out of the car and got these shots...

The worst part... When we got out of the car before the walk, we discussed these very lanterns, and we wondered why someone had put them up. We assumed there was some sort of party.

Seriously, we discussed the lanterns, and I didn't... Anyway...

Have you ever just missed the obvious? Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why you went in there? Have you ever walked into a store and forgotten why you wanted to go to that store in the first place?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. I'm delighted that you're involving your father in this. Cool lanterns. And yes, I sometimes miss the obvious. Though I don't think I've forgotten why I went into a store, we often overlook an item on our grocery list.

    1. I was smacking myself... The Friday prior to this, I went to Dollar Tree, drove myself there, parked, went in, and I couldn't remember why I had gone in in the first place. It took a calming breath and a reminder that I had gone there intentionally before I remembered what I was there to buy.

  2. Sometimes we don’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes it’s the trees we miss.

I’m also curious about how the lanterns got there.

    1. Yeah, we had no idea. Nor did we see anyone we could ask.

  3. I miss the obvious all the time. Usually because I'm in my own little world and not paying attention to the real world.

    1. I think that happens to all of us. I hope so. Otherwise, I have something to worry about ;)

  4. lol. Love that you commented on the lanterns before going in search of an L. At least you finally recognized the opportunity! I probably wouldn't have realized it until a few days later! :)

    1. Yes, I'm rather grateful that I did figure it out. Of course, my father had already started the car...

  5. Yes, to all the questions. Love the lanterns in the trees. My thing is when I forget to bring my camera. That is when I notice all the cool things I could have taken photos of.

  6. LOL! I am always walking into a room and forgetting what I went in there for. I probably would've missed the lanterns, too.

  7. I'm thankful for cell phones because I love always having my "camera" with me. (to me, a cell phone is a camera with a phone attached.) I miss the obvious a lot. I also wonder about those lanterns.

    1. Yes, definitely use the camera more than the phone.

  8. I forget on so many front. I will open something like a cupboard and stand there wondering what I want or need.
I had to go back an edit today post I forgot to mention about getting glasses.
Have you thought of calling the park department and asking them about lanterns. I would like to know also...Coffee is on

  9. Seriously, did you knit something for every letter? I would be really impressed. Don't beat yourself up for missing the lanterns. You were probably practicing your focus abilities - on something else.

    1. I knit the letters in 2015 I think it was. I explained them in the G post for that year (link is in the G post for this year).

  11. My first thought was "Lantern Festival!" but that was two months ago. If there are any Chinese people living in that neighborhood, maybe they strung them up two months ago and didn't take them down?

    1. LOL! Chinese people in that neighborhood? Likely. (It's Orange County. There's a large Asian population.)

  12. "Have you ever" - what kind of question is this? Both scenarios, room and store, happen ALL THE TIME! I blame my multi-taking. I should focus on one thing at a time.

  13. Nice lanterns!
O plenty of times I have missed the obvious! I thought it happened only to me!
I have also walked into rooms and stores and forgotten why I went there in the first place.
When I said this to a friend of mine, she said you are thinking too much all the time. That's why such things happen!
I don't know if there is any grain of truth to that reasoning.

  14. Miss the obvious? What are we talking about, sorry I missed that! haha...sorry, just had to go there. I always go in rooms and forget, then I go out and retrace my steps, I then usually remember but not always. When the not always happens it usually hits me at night when I lay down and try to sleep! haha....

    1. That's the worst, when you lie down and you can get up and take care of it or go to sleep. I choose sleep :)

  15. I miss the obvious, all the time. We have an area like this to walk in our neighborhood. The sidewalk surrounds a mini-lake. Lift Someone’s Spirits by Listening
