In-Service
At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉
What if our lives here are a training for a celestial promotion?
Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

Maybe that's exactly what our lives here are for. Maybe we're in training here, going through a series of challenges, so we are prepared for or worthy of whatever is in the next life.
ReplyDeleteMaybe.
DeleteYay I think? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteDepends on how you're doing...
DeleteOh boy....I would be on the junk collector ship or some ugly grey cloud
ReplyDeleteI kind of doubt that.
DeleteIt better be one hell of a promotion for me to have to deal with all this.
ReplyDeleteI got to thinking, a while back, that maybe people who suffer horribly are in the next-life equivalent of Navy Seal training. Maybe others are just in regular basic training. And people who die young didn't need much training. Who knows? Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOr people who die young came in to be instructors...
DeleteThat would be pretty cool. I'm all for anything after death.
ReplyDeletealtho preferably not hell...
DeleteI think that is what they are! I'm in training to be a head angel.
ReplyDeleteNaturally.
DeleteI can't get the words In-Service out of my head. We have the realtor's equivalent tomorrow-8 hours of Continuing Education. What if I sleep in?
ReplyDeleteSorry, didn't mean to create an "earworm"...
DeleteLike promotion for angel position? haha.....well, pretty sure that will not be me!
ReplyDeleteoops...forgot, yes here in the south we do rustic weddings with dressy dresses and cowboy boots!
DeleteThe cowboy boots kind of made the ensemble...
DeleteSure, promotion to an angel position. Why not?
That would be interesting :)
ReplyDeleteI hope it is ;)
DeleteHaha...sounds an interesting in-training!
ReplyDeleteI hope it is ;)
DeleteSounds sort of like a traditionalist Christian's heaven. ~grin~ I hope there is some sort of adventure in store! Be well, my dear.
ReplyDeleteI see it as more of a New Agey thing, but what do I know?
DeleteYou mean like if we chose this particular life to go through lessons and challenges to improve our eternal spirit/soul? I'm failing.
ReplyDeleteHow can you be so sure?
DeleteI mean, that's kind of what we're taught in church more or less.
