Turtle Try 1

Last year on her birthday, my niece told me she likes turtles. And so when I saw this sea turtle pattern in Knitty, I thought she might enjoy one.

I sent her a message. She never replied.

But now it was in the back of my head. And turtle starts with T. The perfect excuse.

So, now you know what I knit last week...

It wasn't too difficult. I already had the yarn on hand. The eyes are bigger than the pattern called for, but I couldn't find those eyes locally. (And as I did this with a deadline, I didn't have time to search them out online.)

It's a cute little pattern, but there were a lot of little things to assemble. A second turtle would be a whole lot easier.

Maybe. Eventually.

Have you done anything this month you've never tried before? Do you like turtles?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. I slept in until nine. Yep! I've only done that when I was sick. Maybe I should take my temperature!

Anyway the turtle's great fun. Your niece should appreciate it.

  3. I don't know how you kept up with all of your knitting projects for A-Z! I have to start months in advance just preparing my theme. (And then it all goes awry when I lose my computer.)

Will you give your newly knitted turtle to your niece?

    1. If she wants it. Since I can't get an answer from her, probably not.

I didn't plan any of my A to Z this year. The knitting projects were spur of the moment, oh-next-Monday-is-H-and-I-have-this-hedgehog-I've-been-meaning-to-try kind of thing that I managed to finish in less than a week.

  5. The first thing I thought of when you asked the question about liking turtles, was I really don’t have an opinion. But then I gave it more thought and I realize that I kind of do like turtles. They are pretty neat creatures actually. I think I like the slowness of them.

  7. It's adorable! My great aunt collected turtles. SO whenever I see one I think of her. His shell is like a tiny hat on his back. Heather Erickson Author Writer Speaker

    1. The shell is constructed in a manner similar to hats.

  9. I like turtles! For the first time at my docent gig over the weekend, I helped kids create leaf rubbings with an array of leaves from the Conservatory plants.

  11. That is so cute!! I do like turtles. I have to say though, the funniest thing when I think of turtles is seeing signs for lost ones posted on telephone poles, whatnot. I'm like "how do you lose a turtle when they move so slow?" I did do something new this month that I never tried before. I shot a gun at a gun range. My husband has a few guns and has wanted me to go at least once with him. I can't say I enjoyed it, but I tried it like he wanted me to do.

  12. This is cute and I could easily see this as a hat for a kid. I have been boring this month so nothing new but I do like turtles and I know someone who volunteers to go out in the early morning to make sure the cars miss the turtles who cross a certain road during mating season.

  13. Love your turtle, and I meant to say last visit I was impressed you'd knitted all your letters for the A to Z challenge. With your sort of style of course they'd let you in for tea with me at the Mandarin Oriental! Thanks for stopping by.

  14. This reminds me of the little turtles they used to sell as pets when I was growing up. They fascinated me. When I lived in Arkansas we had a turtle season, as I recall (it's been over 30 years now) maybe something like one of your commenters describes because I remember seeing turtles along the road. 16. I like turtles but my daughter in law is crazy about them. They are so cute. I can remember when I was growing up my brother had a couple of those little ones you used to be able to get as pets. Great T to show!
