Too Much Fun

The chemistry classes I covered last week fell into a rhythm. They turned in homework. I gave the lesson via Powerpoint. And then most days they had time to work on their homework for the evening.

As is usual in a high school class, many of them got right to work. I would not be surprised if some of them finished all their work in class. However, there were others...

This one group of boys over to my right were having way too much fun. Laughing. Throwing paper at each other. I approached.

"While chemistry should be fun," I told them, "I rather doubt it's the chemistry you're finding fun."

High school boys *shakes head*

  1. Throwing paper seems like the great high school goof-off activity. :D

    1. It is. Well, throwing anything, really. At other students. At the trash can. Etc.

  3. Chemistry's not supposed to be fun. It's a dark, tortuous madness from which there is no escape.

  4. *snort* You'd think they wouldn't want homework to bring home and they'd just finish it while in school

  5. Do you ever wonder why you went into teaching?? I know I would. I say that as I shake my head cause my grandson would be 21 before he would have the credits he needs.....He is out now and going to work on his GED. I am so disappointed. He was such a smart young man that loved to learn....then he became a teen.

    1. I do know why I became a sub. The alternative was worse.

  6. Hopefully, those boys will learn that you have more fun when you work now and play later.

  7. Even with power points I'd still be lost giving a chemistry lesson. I hope the boys knuckled down after you corrected them.

    1. They didn't. (Although one of them... See next Wednesday's post.) But their teacher was not surprised.

  8. I was one of the kids who tried to get all my homework done BEFORE leaving school. To me, that was the whole point of study hall, then there's less to do when you get home. Ah, high school. Can't say I miss it.

  9. You can depend on teens to behave like teens almost all the time.
