Battle Scars

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.😉

What if that mysterious ache/pain you woke up with this morning (that you have no memory of getting) is from some battle you fought last night of which you have no memory?

  1. Ooh! Clever idea. I like the way your creative mind works. (I wrote 'words' at first there. Heh...) Be well!

    1. When it works... Some days figuring out these questions is a struggle.

  2. That would explain why I always wake up hurting. Sounds better than I hurt myself sleeping.

  3. I must have been in one horrific battle and battling every single night...no wonder I am exhausted.

  4. If the battle is accidentally rolling over on a cat who then scratches me... then yes, I can believe it.

  5. It does make you wonder what happens in our dreams!

  6. Could it be you remember something happened and you still disbelieve what occured because well the memory fails doesn't it?

  7. Well, that explains all my aches and pains...which I thought were all age-related. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  8. Well in a totally non sci-fi, just sci-non-fi way, that's already true. My body's fighting overtime all day and all night and I'm sore as heck!

  9. HA...that's it....that is why I wake every morning not being able to move due to the pain....and here I thought it was the Fibro! haha....kidding. But my mornings sounds so much like that. Now, if I fought a battle that I have no memory of then I guess I would not need to worry about it since I apparently have no clue. I just hope that since I hurt so bad that I at least whipped some ass in that dream!

    2. That solves it....my daily aches and pains are from Dream Battles! HOW CAN I STOP THEM?

  10. I have several aches this morning and not one is a mystery: big toe has ingrown nail, screaming thighs from exercise video this past Sunday, and sore neck from sleeping in bad position. Ug-city. However, I once dreamed that I was fighting with some woman who hit me in the head with a hairbrush and when I woke up, my head was aching in the same spot.

  11. I see all kinds of possibilities with your "What If!"

  12. I'd just nod. Makes sense. lol I have incredibly vivid dreams (sometimes I have a hard time telling if they were dreams or not) so could see that happening. lol Would totally explain why I'm so tired some mornings.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
