Noooooo!

Have you noticed how several TV shows have quietly taken a bit of a vacation lately? (Well, lately as in a couple weeks ago when this post was written.)

Okay, so because of DVR storage issues (it's time for an upgrade) and the amount of time I have each week to watch TV, there are a few (five) shows I'm a bit *ahem* behind on. (Only 6 episodes. Apiece. Or the one that I'm 9 episodes behind on...) Right...

But with the little vacations the other shows took, I suddenly found myself caught up. So, to OnDemand I went to try and catch up on the other shows that have been slowly accumulating... Only to find that the shows that were there just the week prior were no longer there. Gone. Not even their network remained.

For two days, I fretted. Then, on the third day, finally, a message on screen...

Um, yeah. So, by the time you read this, I should theoretically be able to catch up on the shows I've been accumulating. Just about the time when several other shows begin...

Naturally.

(Except, that message still appears when I attempt to try OnDemand. Still. And this is as of 7 PM on Friday the 15th.)

Do you have any TV shows that you've fallen behind on? Do you have a DVR? Is it near capacity?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. I do not own a DVR. I need to remedy that! I go to on Demand and do a title search and find the shows that I missed. But I do know they don't keep a lot of episodes available. I hate how all the shows take such a long winter hiatus and then end so early in the spring. Maybe they think I will be outside doing yard work more!!

    1. You just need to find the winter and summer shows. They exist. Some of them are even good.

  2. I DVR-ed all the time when I lived in the states. It is always very convenient. Now that I live in Germany, I use Netflix :)

  3. I don't have on demand tv. I live out in the sticks and am lucky to have Dish. What shows are you watching? I hardly ever watch network tv, I mostly watch Bravo or Discovery. I'm hooked all the Housewife franchises. I also like Vanderpump Rules, The Shahs of Sunset and I'm ashamed to admit it I also like the Alaskan Bush People. The Bush people are so ridiculous and run around in leather jackets with lots of jewelry looking like idiots.

I do have the Dish box with built in DVR. I can't remember the last time I recorded anything. I have my tv set up with timers, so the channel changes automatically to new episodes shows I like watching. Whenever Big Brother comes back, I'll probably record all the episodes in case I'm not home so I don't miss anything.

    1. I do something similar, but I DVR everything. Start it 20 minutes after the show began, and you can skip all the commercials. (Although, I'm rarely watching when the shows are on.)

  4. I hate it when all of my favorite shows take a break. Or how they all end their seasons at the same time. Then there's nothing to watch for a whole month until other shows come on.

    1. Which is why I thought I was being so clever, saving those shows for just this moment... Ah well.

  5. I don't have a DVR. I use On Demand to play catchup, or use Hulu.

  6. Nope, I torrent all my shows, but I hate the new trend in which they separate the season into winter and spring run with breaks in between, it is annoying. I always try to have about four to five shows and sitcoms a week that I watch, and I leave most of the British shows for summer watching when everything else is on the summer break.

  7. You would think that between on Demand, DVR and Netflix, we would have a problem deciding what to watch. But, it seems we spend a lot of time browsing trying to find worthwhile shows. That's not to say that there aren't any, but it's probably because we watch too much TV and we are usually caught up.

  8. Those monsters! Don't they know people need their shows? Luckily I watch most television online these days. I usually don't have to worry about anything disappearing.

  9. I have several series stockpiled on my DVR. I kept putting everything off until my revisions were done, but I haven't dug into them yet. I lost a couple of my series, though. I was not amused.

  10. I tend to run one show behind, but I have about seven or eight I'm trying to keep up with right now. Good thing Face Off had its finale last Wednesday - one less show.

  11. I have less than 50% left on the DVR but still good. I am behind in Grimm and The Amazing Race which I love. I have to catch up with movies now.

    1. Grimm is one of the shows I was going to catch up on except the stupid FIOS...

  12. I have a DVR. I think it saved my marriage (only kidding, hubs)since we only have one TV. Ours is about 70% full. I occasionally watch TV on Amazon (I loved the first season of Man in the High Castle and am counting the minutes to season 2) - also have Netflix but rarely watch it. I'm not that much into TV. 1. I think a DVR is vital, especially when there's more than one person in the home. No one agrees on everything.

  13. I don't have a DVR, but I am behind on a couple shows, like The Voice for instance. I got behind in March because I was really busy with a show I was in and a cousin's wedding right at the beginning of April. ~Meg Writer‘s Crossings

  14. Thankfully I haven't gotten "hooked" on any shows lately that I have to catch up with. Its probably because hubby "hogs" the remote and I don't enjoy as much the things he likes to watch :)

  15. Oh, no. I hope you find something else during the break. I used to have favorite TV shows. Now, life is going full speed, and my son takes over the main TV most times with his sport games. I go in the other from from time to time and enjoy a couple of episodes of House of Cards, or some suspense movie, but that's rare.

  16. I hope you found the shows and were able to catch up! I have 2 or 3 that I DVR during the week, then usually watch over the weekend.

  17. Yes! I am behind on 3 or 4 shows, I have no idea how many episodes...I will be grateful when the finales roll around in May. I do not have a DVR, I record shows on my computer, but it will delete shows if I collect too many, I have to keep an eye on it.

    1. On your computer? I want to know more...

    2. Well, first of all, I have to use my old computer with Windows 7 (Media Center isn't supported on 8 or 10). I only have network tv directly from the antenna, no cable/Dish. I use Windows Media Center to record and watch the shows, there are some newer programs you can use with Windows 8 or 10, but they had mixed reviews the last I checked. I use something similar to this which acts as a tuner. The tuner is connected to the antenna cable and to my computer via Ethernet cable. It's fairly complex, but it was the best option when VCRs became obsolete.

  19. Interesting post. The only show I kept up with regularly -- with a story -- was Downton Abbey, and I watched almost every one. I also like "The Voice," but was able to watch the last few weeks and keep up with it. Happy A to Z!

  24. I am behind on Downton Abbey by at least a full season. Fortunately, my Tivo is programmed to save new episodes until I delete them. I hope your shows come back!

  25. I have a DVR with my cable company (Optimum) I also get DVR+ which is sort of the same, only Optimum stores my recordings on their servers rather than the DVR in my house. The advantage of DVR+ is that should anything happen to my DVR box (which has happened before), I don't lose all of the recordings that I have made. I can also record more than two things at the same time. This is helpful if I want to watch a sporting event while two other programs I want to tape are on. The DVR only allows me record 2 things at the same time and you have to watch one of them while your recording instead of watching a 3rd program. DVR+ allows me to record multiple programs, while I'm watching another. The negative side is I don't get the 10 second rewind when fast forwarding through commercials play with fast forward and rewind to get to the right spot. The DVR also allows me to play picture-in-picture which is nice while I'm watching 2 sporting events at the same time.

The frustrating part is when a program is scheduled for a certain time and is delayed, neither the DVR or DVR+ adjust to that, so I miss part of the program and don't find out about it until I start watching the recording.

  26. I'm always falling behind on shows. I have writing to do and if I can't write while watching the show then writing wins.

  32. I don't DVR or record. I rely on Neflix or Amazon to keep me as close to up to date that they can (which typically means about a year after the fact). But if the show is good, the wait is worth it.

  33. Is there any other way to watch TV except by DVR? I'm never around during the airing of the show and it's much easier to fast forward through commercials. I'm always behind on watching what I record because I only watch TV every 2-3 weeks. There's too much going on in my life to sit there every night. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
