Taking Credit

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)

What if you were forced to take credit for something you did not do?

  1. I wouldn't take credit for something I didn't do. They'd have to keep torturing me.

    1. Ah, but you've been forced. You don't have a choice in the matter.

  2. I would have an extremely difficult time doing this. If, somehow, that did happen, I would still find a way to let it slip and make sure the people knew who really did the job so they get the kudos...or the pointed finger

  3. I couldn't do it. I have a hard enough time taking credit for what I do.

  4. I'd own up to it. I couldn't pretend. Not even if threatened.

    1. It might not be a threat. It might be that you need to take the credit to help someone else out.

  5. I really wouldn't like it and do everything I could to make sure people knew it wasn't me. But I think it might be interesting to imagine what would happen if no matter what I did, I couldn't get anyone to believe me.

  6. Will say it if I did it. But not if I didn't do it.

    1. But what if they need you to be the hero of the situation?

  7. Wouldn't be able to do this; would probably figure out a way to say who the credit should go to, even if it might cause severe penalty to me.

    1. It seems like I have a lot of selfless readers here. That's a good thing, I think.

  8. I'd love to be the only selfish respondent but I couldn't do it either unless the punishment was dire. What would be the point?

    1. I think having non-anonymous comments hurts this particular question.

  9. Hopefully it's a good thing, not an evil one, to take credit for. But still problematic.

  10. I wouldn't like it but if I was forced to do it, I would! And I would hope that good would come out of what I was being forced to do!!

    1. There might be some good in there. I didn't really specify, did I?

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
